Signs of Hip Dysplasia in Dog?
I was just wondering what the first signs of Hip Dysplasia are? I'd like to know just so I could keep an eye out for it because it is such a common problem these days in dogs that I would hate to be missing such a obvious sign in my puppy, She seems totally and completely fine now but obviously that could change at any time so knowing the first signs would really help me out.
Also if it true that crossbreed dogs are healthier, Some people say that they are while others disagree? My puppy is a crossbreed of a Rhodesian Ridge-back x Staffie though she is the size of a ridge-back puppy at the moment so would this mean she'd be healthier than a pedigree dog?
Thanks for any information.

Most of the time there are no signs of dysplasia. The only way, unless it is severe, to detect it for sure is by x-rays.
No it is not true that mixes are healthier then purebreds. That is nothing more then myth. Mixes very often get arthritis, dysplasia, cancers, heart disease, kidney disease, thyroid issues, eye issues, etc. The truth is that a well bred purebred from health tested lines is at a much lower risk for problems then a badly bred purebred or a mix.
*******most dogs do not have dysplasia ********

Although basically genetic, HD can also be caused by bad nutrition and over exercising. The biggest tip I could give you would be to stick to the 5 minute rule - so 5 mins per day per month of life for lead walking. Plus free play at home also. It's a delicate balance of building muscle but protecting joints.
The trouble with HD is that most dogs have HD to a certain degree. In that not many have a perfect hip ball / socket joint. Therefore it will only show itself depending on the degree of dysplacia.
A really bad dysplacia can and will show itself when a pup is about 6 months old. These would be severe cases. The dog definitely has trouble going from sit to stand, and feels uncomfortable usually in a sit.
However other dogs won't show a problem until middle age when a bit of arthritis creeps into the not so perfect joint and it will only show then.
Don't forget elbows must also be watched.

For smaller dogs, yowling or grumbling when lifted or handled
Lameness
A lack of motivation to move
Stiffness
Increased sensitivity to touch
A marked change of behavior
A faint popping sound coming from the back legs with each step
Difficulty getting up from a lying or sitting position
While moving, moving both rear legs in unison
Difficulty climbing stairs
A painful or violent reaction to an extension of their rear legs
Play or exercise taking more of a toll than it used to
Reluctance to walk, climb stairs, jump, or play
Hiding or disappearing from sight
Whining or making noises for no other reason
These are many signs of hip dysplasia. Just keep an eye out. If you got your pup from a breeder, it should be VERY rare.
And yes, crossbreed dogs are healthy, many people agree and many don't. But I think they are, I've got 3 mixed breeds and they're perfectly healthy.

Natural and Economical Dog Repellent Ground Cayenne pepper mixed with water in a spray bottle is a great natural dog repellent. Just spray it where you don't want the dog to go. I made a trail in the lawn that I can walk through at night without stepping in the neighbor's dog's doodoo.

My dog was born with arthritis of the hips and we never noticed it until he was 10 years old when he started holding up his rear leg and stop using it . Things we missed was the that he ran . His *** would wobble, all dogs push off with there rear legs and he didn’t. his rear leg looked like a chicken leg when a good leg looks like a pork chop in the shape and the way they develop. Some signs are slow to get up when they sit or lay down to long and the limp or favoring the one leg , dogs are silent sufferers
