Question about the first trimester scan??? Please help!!!!?
Hi guys, I had my first trimester scan that is used to test for down syndrome. There was a nasal bone measuring at 4.4mm and the NT fluid was 2.2mm. I thought this was ok until my gyn sent me for blood test... I am 13 weeks 5days and my age is 23. Am I at risk??? Anyone with more knowledge please help

You're just fine! The reason your doctor sent you for a blood test is because the Nuchal Translucency doesn't tell you absolutely for sure if your baby has down's syndrom or not--it gives you the chances. So, if the nasal bone is visible now, your chances decrease. If the nuchal folds measure below 2.5mm (which yours does, at 2.2) your chances decrease.
Then, they also take your blood, and combine your blood test results with your Nuchal screening, and your age, to give you as complete chances as possible. It's standard procedure--then, they can tell you with something like 87% certainty whether your baby is at risk for down's syndrome.
Then, in about a month, they'll take your blood again, and combine those results with the results they already have to give you something like a 94% certainty whether your baby is at risk.
So far, your age is in your favor (as you get older the risk increases) and your nuchal measurements were right on target, so your risk factor seems pretty low, but they'll be able to give you much more specific numbers after they combine those with your blood test.
Good luck, and try not to worry!

I just did a little bit of research and I do not believe that your chance is elevated at all. You were probably sent for the standard tests that every woman is sent for. The fact that a nasal bone was visible is a good sign and the fact that Nuchal Translucency was below 3mm is a good sign as well. Everyone has some risk of having a baby with a Chromosomal Abnormality but most times the risk is minimal. The risk gets bigger the older we get but at 23 your chances are fantastic for having a healthy baby :)
Hope this Helps :)

The blood test is a part of 1st trimester scan. Your numbers sound okay. Do not worry unless the doctor calls back. If the risk is low, somebody will call you and give you a number based on all the tests. I do not think there is anything to worry yet.
Good luck!

The blood test is part of the test - they use the hormone levels to help them get a better result. With your age you should be pretty low risk. I'm sure that your gyn would have explained to you if it was for anything else. Good luck
