cat is extremely shy PLEASE HELP!?

I have a Siamese, she is almost a year old, I adopted her in October of 2009 when she was about 6-7 weeks old. Ever since then she has been very shy and scared of everyone, I try to feed her treats to make her trust me a little bit more but it doesn't seem to be helping. She won't play with any toys, so playing with her is difficult. I have 2 other cats and she plays with them( 3 years old and a kitten)..she will however let me hold her and cuddle her and she will pur. But any other time she won't come up to anyone and runs and hides. Is there anything I can do that will let her trust me and come out of her shell?

Update:

She plays with the other cats just fine, and when needs to she will defend herself. Is there any toys anyone can recommend to me. Thanks.

I have a siamese mix that used to be the same way. She's 6 now, and has come out of her shell. You may just have to wait until she's older for her to mellow out.

Sake doesn't like to play either, and won't allow herself to be held. But when it's HER IDEA, she will head butt, drool and purr like it's going out of style, and I have learned to just let it always be her idea. She treats toy mice like babies and drops them in the water dish (where they rot if I don't rescue them). She used to ALWAYS run and hide, but now people coming over doesn't bother her much.

I have 4 cats total, and the other cats mess with her because she's timid and refuses to defend herself. So I defend her, and the other cats have learned to leave her alone.

    Hope this helps!

you are able to not stress your cat to have the character features you like anymore than you are able to stress a guy or woman to. that's the reason it is so important to quite get to nicely known a cat until eventually now you purchase it. the only situation i ought to signify is probably attempting to seize it with treats. you purely could attitude gently and patiently.I actually have a cat who's relatively shy in direction of human beings, yet loving in direction of me. each and every so often that's relatively stressful to earn a cat's have faith. i'm curious even with the undeniable fact that as to why to procure the cat if he's shy? Cats are creatures not toys, and there must be a mutual understand there. in case you needed a playful kitty, you've gotten long previous out and offered a playful kitty.

I have the same problem! Except my cat is a tortoiseshell. Her name is Khloe and I think she is four years old. She plays with my other cat, Bob, but cowers whenever anyone but my family comes near her. She has been like this since she was spayed. Before that she was playful and outgoing. What I try to do is bring her out when people are over and its quiet. I hold her in my lap and rub her ears. It really helps her! I am hoping to hear the answers to this too! Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!

My 2 year old Siamese is the same way. She goes running to hide whenever a plumber/electrician/any other worker (usually male) drives up to our house. She cowers and tries to hide until they are gone. No amount of coaxing and reassurance seems to help. I'm also looking forward to reading the answers to this question.
