Louisiana Hunting Question... I'm 19, can I transport a Hunting Rifle from my house to WMA?
I live in Saint Rose, La and I haven't been hunting in a few years. I took Hunters ED, and I just bought hunting and fishing license. I'm thinking about going hunting in Pearl Rivers Wildlife Management Area which is 45 minutes away and I have to pass through 3 parishes to get there. I'm 19 years old and my biggest and main question is can I transport a Hunting Rifle Or Any Firearm from my house to the wma without getting in trouble if I happened to get pulled over? If I am able to transport a firearm by myself, how must the weapon be stored (unloaded? disasembled? etc...) and am I able to transport Handguns also? I would be hunting with iron sights with a 1943 Russsian Mosin Nagant 7.62x54r rifle and if possible I would like to be able to carry a Colt 9mm for personal protection against wild animals.... What are the laws?

This is how the law stands in Louisiana as far as transporting your guns in your vehicle is concerned. A few years back the Louisiana legislature enacted a law that gave you the right to have any weapon that is legal to have in your house to be legal in your vehicle. Under the law, your vehicle in Louisiana is simply an extension of your house. If it's legal in your house, it is legal to carry in your vehicle.
And as far as the pistol is concerned here is how the law reads. You cannot purchase a handgun until you are 21 years old. But it is not illegal to have a handgun in your possession if you are 18 years old or older. So you could carry a pistol in your car legally also.

I don't specifically know the laws of Louisiana but you should be able to carry the Mosin (unloaded without any problems....even though you can't "own" a handgun till your 21 you should be able to carry it unloaded without any problems...
