Are we all so busy making a living that in the end we forget to live ?

I would like your opinions on this. Thanks.

All? No. Many, or most? Yes. Particularly in the United States where people have less leisure time as a consequence of their jobs and lifestyle than in much of the rest of the world. The USA didn't become the richest and most productive country in the world by being lazy, but the trade-off of prosperity is that there is greater materialism and things control us by demanding our limited time, attention and resources When you think about it, "stuff" owns us and controls us. We may believe that possessions our ours and we control them, but unless one is very wealthy and can hire others to care for our possessionss for us, we go to great lenghs to acquire them and keep them safely under our control. This requires a lot of effort both in and outside of work - time, energy and money expended for the sake of our stuff rather than the sake of ourselves. In effect, we have forgotten to live because we are living for our possessions. They may enhance our lives but at the expense of our time, life's most precious commodity. Some people see through this charade, but sadly many do not.

So true we go about are daily lives trying to get material worth nothing. And we simply say how else do i live. Im sure if humans followed their deepest instincts we would still be running around in the jungle, but then is that so different then following a system of laws and currency's that leads us nowhere.

Only if we choose to be.

MANY people work to make a living, but still make the conscious choice to utilize their "spare time" (however little that may be) to live their desired Life.

For some, it is by creating art.

For parents, it is interacting with their children.

For others it is by reading, or playing sports, or clubbing, or working out at the gym, or just laying on the couch watching TV.

No, it's not necessarily EASY, but it is still a matter of choice.

Only those who are extremely materialistic and workaholic, esp in First world societies.

The tendency is to emulate the rich and famous, and work too hard, sometimes at two jobs. But sometimes we have no choice, if we have many mouths to feed, and to send our children to the best schools. To compete with the Jones next door, and to live our dreams, often leave us no time to indulge in hobbies or holidays. We age faster and sometimes become depressed. Such is life in developed societies. It is essential that we should visit Third world countries sometimes to see how others live, and to slow down a bit, for the sake of our health and well-being. Om...... :-))

The two are the same. School and home life for children make children feel like they are barely tolerated and (among other things) causes the blossoming adults to frame their actions in language like "I HAVE to go to work today".

When you recognize unwanted events as stepping stones to greater things then you will use a whole new language.

Making a living to me is a labor of love for my family. I love my family and will do whatever is necessary to keep them safe. As my children grew older and were able to help, I had more time to play with my family. Because I worked hard and established the financial basis for our security, I also had money to play with.

It's an American thing to work so hard to make all this money but to rarely enjoy it. If you have a job you really love it's not really work but that is pretty rare.
