hooking up my television to cable?

I have a magnavox MT2024 model television that I have not used since 2007. Our internet comes with our brand new apartment so I am trying to hook up my television to cable. I purchased a coaxial cable and hooked it up to my television. I get some channels but not others. My settings on the television are set to cable and also set to not skip channels. What else do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

Update:

I meant to write that our cable is included with the apartment so we don't pay a separate bill for the cable.

Update 2:

By certain channels I mean we are only getting 3 channels. Basic cable would have more than that.

You have an unusual situation, both Internet and cable TV provide by the property owner. Since they're providing it, I would start with them (the on-site building manager or the property management company). Ask them for specific instructions on exactly what level of TV service is provided and what you need to do to access it.

In general terms, assuming that no cable box is included, you would connect a coaxial patch cable from the cable wall outlet to the antenna jack of your TV and, on a modern set, go to the setup menu, select the cable tuner, then scan for channels.

However, you have an old CRT (picture tube) television, and it may not be that sophisticated. It probably has an air/cable compatible tuner which you select by some means (maybe a switch), so you need to be sure that the cable option is selected. If you do all that and are still only getting 3 channels, I'd want to go to the property manager for guidance. They may deal with it themselves or direct you to the proper contact at the cable company.

None of this addresses your Internet connection, which is apparently working. Is it via the same cable? If yes, you must have a splitter feeding your TV and your modem.

Check with your cable company and see what is included in your cable TV package. If no one is paying for cable at your address then it may be turned off at the companies headquarters. My cable company has many package options available from basic package for a minimum fee and from there you can add channels for more money of course. Visit the web site of your supplier and see what packages they have.

No you don't, the MT2024 is made by Memorex, not Magnavox.

If you're only getting 3 channels, then chances are you don't actually have cable service. I assume you have already scanned for channels, both analog and digital channels...
