Long haired cat 4 years old?

My cat is 4 years old and is we think a Maine Coon Mix but we are not sure. The vet says she may be too. She is heavier like the Maine Coon (about 24 pounds) but she does not eat TOO much. Anyway, she has NEVER thrown up a hair ball her whole life. I have seen her try to throw up about three times in four years and only a piece of grass will come out if she has been outside the day before. (she is an indoor cat but we take her out on a harness and leash) Sometimes a piece of food will come out with the grass. Is this weird? Don't most cats cough up hairballs? Thanks for answering.

    Hi there!

Some cats don't have a problem with Hair balls and other do. It could be that you have your cat on some good quality food that treats hair balls, therefore, the hair is passed in it's stool. I wouldn't worry. If your cat is yakking on a hairball for a day and hasn't been able to get it up, it could be stuck between his Stomach and small intestines. This happened my my Maine Coon. BUT this is very rare! you cat would not be able to eat or drink and would look like it's in distress.

Regarding the grass, most cats eat grass to make themselves sick. It's just a weird kitty thing. It's more of an annoyance than anything. Your cat may be feeling the hair ball in him, eats some grass to make himself sick. nothing comes out because it's being digested and will pass in his poo.
