If I could prove there was no afterlife, would you be okay with that?
First off, I'm not claiming that there is proof, or even that such a thing can be proved. I see no way such a thing could be empirically proved. But, as one whose opinion of life after death lies somewhere between skeptical and incredulous, I often hear responses which go something like, "So you think that when you die that's just the end of it. Seems like a terrible way to live." My question is simply, if god had told you, in a way you knew was absolutely true, that when you die it's all over, end of story, no heaven or hell, would you think that this was a terrible way to live? Again, I'm not even claiming that this is the case. I'm simply curious if you would think that 50 to 100 years in this universe without an afterparty was a ripoff, or would you just be grateful for the time you have and get on with your life.
@NM: the idea of never ever seeing our loved ones again is truly a gigantic bummer, I heartily agree! But that just makes me try to be extra certain that my loved ones know how much they are loved while they're still alive :)

Good question.
I guess I'd be pretty darn bummed because there are loved ones who have passed away who I was counting on seeing again...

hehehe its funny you see i bet there is an afterlife cuz nothing is for no purpose nothing is random even planets have orbits and could never change their path cuz nothing is chaos , but this depends on what you believe some believe that there is no after life to justify their actions in this life living la vida loca :P other say that there is one to protect the human moral and whats wrong and right but the rediculious part is none of that matters when im dead and i dont think that the creator needed to take anyones opinion about it or hahaha u cant proove anything u can only say : just wait and we will see .......would i be okay about it ? if there is an after life will anyone give a damn if i was okay about it ????

There is an afterlife. Its called "children".
However, it wouldn't bother me to point out that you think what I do - that this is the only turn we get. Some people say that makes life "cheaper". I say that it is exactly the opposite - it makes this life precious beyond measure but you won't get another one.

As an atheist and materialist, I'm satisfied with the notion that we'll live a very finite lifetime. To demand to live eternally is to assign a value on humanity which doesn't exist.

Yes ,since I do not believe in one anyway and I think there is a lot of proof to say there is none.

Only if that would be an actual widely recognized proof.

I didn't exist for billions of years. I don't see why the next billions should be uncomfortable for anyone.

I don't believe in any afterlife. I fail to see why that should bother me.

I wouldn't care.
However, you can't prove there is no after-life.
