I have a daughter who will be attending a religious college in the fall.?

I would like to see her get good grades but was wondering if it would be ok to put an additional amount in the collection plate at our church and mention this to God in our prayers. I have told her that God is practical and would appreciate something extra. She has chided me and says that this is not the way God works. What shouldl I do?

Practicing superstitious rituals like tithing and praying to mythical deities will have no effect on your daughter’s grades.

Does your church or denomination provide financial support to this college? If not, then putting money in the plate BECAUSE of this will do no special good. While God DOES need this money to help pay for the necessities of doing His Will on Earth, he ALSO leaves it up to the church or denominations to decide which of His many works to use this money for – paying for the church building, missionary work, buying bibles for need people in other countries, or even helping fund religious colleges. So any money you put in the plate will help the causes supported by your church.

But God is not impressed by money in any amount, because God Himself doesn’t need money! God owns everything, and what He doesn’t have He can create. Money is useless to God in heaven. So give as you see fit to support your church or denomination, but NOT to “bribe” God!

As for prayers, God already KNOWS where your daughter is going, so you don’t need to remind Him. What you DO need to do is ask Him to help you daughter weather through the temptation and liberalism that have invaded even the religious colleges. Yes, there ARE teachers in a religious school that DO NOY believe that Jesus is God! So pray the God will help your daughter see through those lies! Ask God to help guide you daughter through the temptations of off-campus parties, alcohol, and sex, Ask God to guide your daughter through classes with good upstanding CHRISTIAN teachers who will help her GROW IN CHRIOST, and not grow in doubt.

Your daughter is right, this is not the way God works. He owns everything anyway, so how can you bribe Him? God bless, and good luck to your daughter.

I'm impressed. The atheists out here couldn't even be bothered to even lightly peruse your history before they huffily replied.

Man. Making atheists indignant is like shooting fish in a barrel.

You should DEFINITELY take some lessons from some of the other trolls around here. This wasn't so great.

    Better luck next time!

just to let you know, my sophomore year the christian college i went to was ranked #5 in the nation for the amount of beer consumed per student.

we also had a fairly lucrative drug trade on campus...

    That's a bribe.

Also, god doesn't work in any way.

    In other words...

When Haitians prayed to god to save them from the rubble after the earthquake, he ignored them and over 100,000 people died...

but you think that your god, who ignored all those Christian Haitians, will somehow grant good grades if you bribe him?

As far as Poes go, this is not too bad.

Still a big, ol' fail, though.
