Health benefits of becoming Vegan?

I'm Pescatarian now (I don't eat red meat.. okay, slightly vegetarian as I eat chicken Boca patties as well as grilled chicken now and then) but am considering going vegan.

Are there any good health benefits? I would just give up milk, eggs, and food with animal by-products, right?

thanks!

You would be eating a cholesterol free diet. Cholesterol is only found in meat, dairy and eggs.

Of course, it is possible to eat an unhealthy vegan diet. I've known a lot of vegans who eat nothing but onion rings, French fries, energy bars, soda, chips and other processed vegan junk food.

But, if you eat a healthy, balanced vegan diet, the health benefits will be enormous.

Any type of vegetarian generally keeps their blood lipid levels and body weight closer to the desired range. Plus, vegetarians tend to have a lower risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. And, you'll be eating more vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, herbs, etc..... so you'll be increasing your intake of natural phytochemicals found in plants which have been shown to decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease.

I suggest finding a vegan food pyramid and buy some good vegan cookbooks. Plan healthy, balanced meals around the pyramid.

Eat a low-fat, whole-foods vegan diet. Whole-foods are foods that do not contain food chemicals, preservatives or additives. Whole-foods are not processed in any way and generally do not come in a box or a bag. In other words, cook all your meals from scratch using fresh ingredients. White rice, white flour and sugar are good examples of processed foods.

Being vegan also means giving up honey, as vegan eat no animal by-products. Some vegans will also not eat sugar made from sugar cane. This is because bone-char is used in the processing of cane sugar. Bone-char is charcoal made out of animal bones. It is used in the filtering process of sugar. Sugar made from beets, on the other hand, is 100% vegan. (A healthy diet would limit your sugar intake, anyway).

No, actually Vegans get an orange or yellow tint to their skin and lack Iron. I was a vegan for some time. Vegitarians often get clearer skin while still maintaining the healthy glow. There is a lot to be said about veganism, but 1)No food is truly VEGAN 2)I know maybe 2 Vegans that actually avoid dietary health problems.

  • Good health comes from good nutrition. Nutritional awareness is the key. That's why being vegetarian makes people healthier because, if you cut out a food group you have to replace the lost nutritional benefits else you will become sick. This forces vegetarians into a much more nutritionally aware diet and hence more vegetarians are healthier.

When it comes to being vegan these advantages drop off. When you cut out two or more food groups it's extremely hard in order to get a balanced diet. Hence for vegans health drops proportionally (studies on intelligence also found the same results).

Diabetes, also called diabetes mellitus, has become a very common heath problem. How to reverse diabetes naturally https://tr.im/rUtHb

There are two main types of diabetes- type 1 diabetes in which the body does not produce insulin and type 2 diabetes in which the body does not produce enough insulin or the insulin that is produced does not work properly.

Some of the common symptoms of diabetes include fatigue, weight loss (even though you are eating more), excessive thirst, increased urination, cut and bruises that are slow to heal and blurred vision.

While there is no cure for diabetes, with your blood sugar level under control you can live a totally normal life. There are various natural remedies for diabetes that will help you control your blood sugar level.

No scientist or teacher of science should be speculating on the intentions of a god, goddess, elf, fairy, demon, or leprechaun. I hope that nonsense wasn't taught to students in science class. That's not education. That's indoctrination. What is even more troubling is that evidence was ignored, and a "scientific" conclusion was reached using religious dogma-- the supernatural, mystics, divining rods, or the magic 8 ball. Tell me, did a god or nature intend for the intensive and cruel factory farming of animals, pets or not? Oh but pets are also farmed and sold, aren't they? 3-4 million cats and dogs are killed in the US alone every year as well. And in some countries, they're not thought of as pets at all-- just dog meat. I recall that even the leather from dogs has ended up in the US market. Would any just god really be thrilled with a machine that maximizes profits and minimizes compassion, even at the expense of human beings? Even Barack Obama has admitted that the increased demand for meat places a strain on the food supply around the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt56ER4TSqc Does the health of those human beings without any food at all matter?

What was ignored was science, and a range of issues surrounding modern agriculture and lifestyle. For the past over half century, we've been on a road that has led to modern intensive agriculture that has made it more dangerous to consume many meats and other animal products from many of these sources, and that greatly impacts our environment. What has health benefits is modifying your behavior, eating healthy, and eating in a way that is healthy for our environment. Nature did not "intend" for an overpopulation of human beings producing an overpopulation of livestock and all of the problems that go along with it. If we did what nature "intended," many of us would be dead along with the 16,000+ children who die every day of hunger and malnutrition while rich nations get fatter. I believe, based on science, that a healthy life and lifestyle can be achieved with a vegan diet. Afterall, the American Dietetic Association position paper on vegetarian and vegan diets written by PhD's and registered dietitians states, "It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes." "The results of an evidence-based review showed that a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of death from ischemic heart disease. Vegetarians also appear to have lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension and type 2 diabetes than nonvegetarians." There are over 200 citations of sources for that research down the bottom of that position paper http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/2009_ADA_position_pap...

Teacher neglected to mention the warnings that government gives to pregnant women and children about the dangers of eating many kinds of fish because of all the crap we have done to our environment. I wonder if nature "intended" that. For people who claim to care about natural things, we do an awful lot of unnatural things. No health benefits? Really? None at all? Not even an answer based on science instead of religion? Just, "it's what god intended?"

There are no particular health benefits of becoming a vegetarian or vegan, as opposed to eating a sensible omniverous diet, which is what God or nature intended us to do. Chickens, cows, and fish raised or caught for food are not pets, and do not need to be thought of in the same way.

none whatsoever. all the vegans i know look ill. they are probably undernourished and lacking important vitamins and minerals in their diets. humans are designed by nature to be omniverous.
