Is there any way to stay with a Native American tribe in order to get to know them and their culture?
I have Native American blood in me and I am very interested in getting back to my roots. I think it was a great culture and the best for the planet and it's people and it should be supported and lived more. I would love to learn from elders who follow this. Who or what group could I contact for such an experience? Thank you.

you think it "was" a great culture?
we are people living in communities today raising families and carrying out traditions. not a theme park or bed and breakfast. we are not one big group either. we are hundreds of different nations with different languages and beliefs and customs. if you really do have any native ancestor you need to find out a lot more about them before you go wanting to learn anything. consider that your first lesson.

Mad as Sin,
Jo,Broken,Cacheton and others have made good points.
Start with your family to get, name(s),tribe(s),and location(s) of said Native ancestor/ancestors.
When you know the tribe or tribes, learn all you can about them.
Powwows will help you also.
Regarding elders, there are a many fakers out there. I've heard that if they ask for money before
giving advice,run the other way!
That being said, over time you'll probably meet Native people who will tell you things that would not be told to people without Native ancestry. Give yourself time and keep an open mind.
Good luck to you!

Smart girl for not claiming that "I have indian in me", then you would get lots of different responses, many negative. As read in other answers that researching your true family heritage should be a priority before attempting to go mix with the Native People to save yourself some face because you will be questioned, not by one, but many through out. You could always tell anyone to hit the road w/ their questions, but you wanna learn.
I see many people living amongst the Natives and until they are accepted they are ridiculed, most behind their backs, but spoke to on an intrigued motive. After learning more about your bloodline then you will be able to know a starting spot, where ever the blood originate like tribe. Good Luck and be careful

jajajajajajajaja....."was" huh..?
welllll
if u move to a rez..then sure you could..or to any other heavily populated native area, you would eventually catch on...
but different tribes have different cultures, traditions, customs ect...
people should realize that yes there is are native cultures...but,we AREEE normal americans....
try going to a powwow....they may have some information...or contact your local NAIA and see what they can do for you :]
but i wouldnt suggest doing this...you will be laughed at non-stop..and be ridiculed and stuff...just do some book research..probably your best bet

If you are interested in getting back to "your roots" then look to your family. If they are not tribal...meaning, FROM a tribal community...you do not have those "roots." Most Americans claim to "have" Indian blood "in" them. Most of these stories are erroneous...MOST.
I can also tell you...there is no legitimate group that would give you this "experience" you are looking for..as you have presented yourself. Not trying to be mean...just being straight with you. Do you realize how many White/Black people make this claim of being "part-Indian" and wanting to "re-learn" their supposed "heritage?" BTW - stay clear of groups that offer this kind of "experience" for a fee. There are a ton of new-age BS Indian charlatans out there...they target people like you...that romanticize "mystical Indians."

The little amount of native blood you probably have is not going to get you a free pass sweetie.
