Shouldn't government jobs count as jobs lost?

Every government job is paid for by taxpayer dollars, taken out of paychecks from the private sector, just like unemployment is taken out. How can we consider a government job a "created" job, when actually it has taken someone off of the private sector job count?

Government employees pay taxes too. I would say they should not count as lost.

Because the point is that somebody does work, gets paid, and then goes out and puts that pay right back into the economy. In this context it doesn't matter (much) whether the money used to pay the individual is collected via taxes or through commerce in the private sector.

No. Workers get paid and spend money. That helps GDP growth, regardless of whether the pay source is government or private.

Better described as 50-60 jobs lost because it will take that many people with real jobs taxes to pay their salary and benefits

You are right, it is a drain on the economy. How can you count something as a 'gain' when it is just more debt.
