Opinions on a website?

I have 2 mockups here (not fully functional):

One -

http://nickven.info/mybiowaste/homepage.html

Two -

http://nickven.info/mybiowaste/homepage2.html

Questions:

Which one do you like best? Why

Is the header font and slogan font good, or should it be different?

Any other opinions or ideas.

Keep in mind:

They are both just layouts, I haven't started on adding color.

You should base most of your opinion on layout.

The font of the large paragraph hasn't been editted.

The site looks best when viewed in the latest version of Firefox or Chrome. IE7 has some slight differences and it hasn't been jury-rigged for IE6 yet.

Best answer goes to the one with a well thought out comment that offers helpful advice while answering the questions.

Number One is better. When you look at it your eyes focus on the center column (which the whole site is), with Number Two your eyes are looking around, most likely at the images on the sides rather then the content.

I think what you have could look nice if it was flushed out a bit.

The buttons look decent (how they glow).

    Recommendations:

    - Make body-top-content background-color blue or something, something light perhaps.

    - Keep bottom-content background-color white

    - In your CSS you might want to make body{} background-color something.

    - Depending on what you choose as a background color, you might want to change the grey scale gradient text at the top.

Basically the outline is good, it just needs some color so it doesn't look so much like a Word document.

If you go with number 2 make it a true 3 column layout. I notice when I resize the window horizontally that the divs change your layout. (Tested using Chrome)
