It really depends on the kitten as some are more adventurous than some,i usually wait until they are around 4-6 months old but even then supervised,as i have had a bad experience in the past when a tom cat attacked a kitten so its not only about her roaming, its also about what is lurking,

and be sure she has been vaccinated too to be safe, and of course its best until she has been spayed as not being done will cause her to roam,so as soon as she has been and recovered then introduce her to the garden but stay with her,

they never go far when young but watch in case she climbs a tree as they all do it but cant get down again without help,i have raised 500+ kittens from birth due to foster work, and introduced them to the big wide world they all returned, but i waited until they were around 4 months to 6 months it is safer then, but i took them for fresh air while younger but stayed with them at all times.

When my cat was a baby I used to take him out on a kitten harness and lead, to explore at his own pace. I took him out several times a day, in all weathers so he knew that things could change outside. This meant that by the time he was neutered and chipped at 6 months he already knew the layout of the garden. When I let him out on his own for the first time I also showed him how to use the catflap, and I watched him from the window so that he knew where to come back to me. He stayed out for almost an hour on his own the first time. Now he is 3 years old and completely confident, his territory includes the gardens either side of us.

Hope this helps! (it did help us a lot), you can get a kitten harness from any good pet shop.

My kitten was 3 months when she went out. Kittens that young usually run back into the house alot. The first time my kitten went outside, she ran straight back in... if its a hot day, open a door (if you have a big window door that can be left open - into the backgarden) and if he goes outside after about 3 months then yay thats fine. If not, then he isn't ready. But it is a good idea to keep them in at night for a few more weeks, or until they can run fast, hide or attack incase of foxes.

    Good luck!

well cats have a less tendency to run away then dogs do.i would say about 5-6 month's old.by then it would be used to your home and know it's safe there and won't leave.but not just so she won't run away.if she's small enough and a bird see's her well.....she needs to be large enough to go outside and be safe but also know to stay in the garden at that age she should be :) hope it helped

Cats don't run off as much as animals such as dogs. Really, you could let it out after it's got used the house inside first. Then you can let it out, but just keep an eye out for it in case something happens. It doesn't matter to be fairly honest. :)

I have a 13weeks old kitten last night i let her out to run about she was out for about 2hrs and two children ran after it and brung it back into my house but he wasnt doing a bit harm why could they not just leave him alone i think you should leave him in for about another 2 weeks until he gets used to u i better keep mine in for anouther 3 weeks.................... good luck

No kitten will run away. They will often run back inside and are very cautious about this huge new world.

As long as she has been vaccinated and has been at home with you for at least 3 weeks I'd say it's safe...unless there are a lot of older and bigger cats in your neighbourhood, in which case I'd leave it until she's bigger and more able

It will not run away from you if it likes you. How many do you have? If you are growing corn, don't let more than one in your garden, they destroy stalks!
