Does our kitten have worms?
My daughter some how talked me into a kitten about a week ago. I haven't had time to take her to the vet, but so far she has seemed healthy, eyes looked good, ears did as well, she was filling out, very active, used the little box, etc. Well this morning she threw up, and sorry if this is too much information but in her throw up there was something that looked like a thin light colored rubber band, but it was moving- is this worms?? I always thought that their tummy was suppose to be hard, and hers is not?? Or could this be something else?? Also I am wondering how serious worms are- I am going to take her to the vet as soon as I can hopefully this evening, bit just wondering how worries I should be about this little kitty.
I have never dealt with worms before, I was just making sure it wasn't something else
But we will definitely be taking her tonight

Yes that is worms. Actually all kittens get worms to start out according to my vet. They get them from the mothers milk. All new kittens need to be de-wormed once they are done with their mothers milk. We got a kitten from a barn once and she had worms because she had never been to a vet. We took her and he gave her some medicine that killed the worms and then she pooped them out. I could see them in the litter box (not moving) and they looked exactly like you described.
EDIT: http://www.pets.ca/pettips/tips-63.htm
"Roundworms are the most common source of worms in kittens and tapeworms are the most common source of worms in adult cats. Roundworms get into the kittens through mother's milk and into mother usually by way of contaminated soil. A kitten with roundworms will have a pot bellied appearance. Roundworms themselves look like spaghetti noodles and can be present in stool or vomit. They are easily treatable with oral medication."

Sounds like your new family member has worms, and from what you describe, tape or round worms. Worms can get into the belly when the infestation is bad enough. Worms are not the biggest issue in the world and are easily handled by the right med, but to determine if it is tapeworms, the vet may need to do a fecal exam. By the way, MOST kittens outside catteries (and even then) are born with worms, and deworming is part of the process kittens go through with their first visit to a vet. As far as a serious health issues, not the biggest health issue in the world, but for the kitty's and your family's sake (humans can sometimes catch tapeworms from their pets) get it handled as quickly as possible.

Yes,this is worms. Pretty common in kittens, especially in ones born outdoors,or if parent was outdoors, and not checked yearly for worms. Take the baby to vet,of coasts, will not become a serious ISA as long as it is addressed right away. The belly does appear, swollen, some mistake this for chubbiness,it is the worms. She/he will be given a shot, which will rid her of the worms, usually in 24hrs,or less. Take the kittens Soto;l.to vet with you,as this will be analyzed,to find out which type of worm, she/he has. Their are over the counter worming sold at the pet store, but these for me make me nervous, and per fer the shot, and all be done with a vet. He will also tell you when to drop off another stool, after the worming, just to be checked, and insure they are gone. She/he will be fine,as long as it is taken care of,as worms can and will make them very sick, also can cause infection, requiring him/her to need an antibiotic.

That's a roundworm, and if they have a LOT of them, they often throw them up. You're wise to take her to the vet - this is beyond what most of the cheap and ineffective pet store/grocery store wormers can take care of. Worms of course are serious in a kitten (or cat) as they are robbing them of nutrients. When you take her to the vet, take a nice fresh stool sample (in a plastic baggie) so that they can determine just what parasites she's got and give you the proper medication for them. Once you've given her the worming meds, you should disinfect her litter box so she doesn't reinfect herself. Dump the litter, clean the box with bleach, and refill with fresh litter. It usually takes two treatments to kill all the worms (the eggs hatch in two weeks) so your vet will probably give you two doses - one for now, and one for two weeks from now.

It definitely sounds like your kitten has roundworms. This should be treated now before the infestation gets worth. Worms can cause death in kittens so be sure to see a veterinarian for a dewormer. Since it sounds like you caught this early, treatment should be a relatively easy matter. Long term prevention can be accomplished with a monthly medication provided by your veterinarian.

If he became a stray he in all possibility has a minimum of tapeworm. They get tapeworm from eating fleas, and that i'm advantageous he's performed that. Given his age, i do no longer propose using any over the counter or domicile remedies on him. you're able to take him on your vet for an examination and proper medicine on the perfect dosage. there is no telling what else he could have, so keep him remoted from the different pets you have until he's been given the all sparkling via your vet. thank you for worrying sufficient to keep this kitten in choose!

ok, if this kitty is already throwing up, then that is an automatic sign that you should get it to the vets straight away. And if you see a moving rubber band in her vomit, what more of an indincation do you need? do u need it to stand up, an say "hi, im a worm, but you can call me wriggles"?? No, but its probably an elephant, i mean what are the chances of a wriggling thing in your cats vomit is a worm, nah i say an elephant. :P
if it stands up and starts singing the "im a worm song" and have tap shoes-- correction- "shoe", i would say, its an.... ARABIAN BABY ELEPHANT!!!...
hope it doesnt grow.
:P
