Possible Electrical or Appliance Issues, please help.?

I have a window unit in my bedroom that has been working like a dream, that is until 8/8 (Sunday) and now the A/C unit will not blow out cold air. I have cleaned the filter, tried moving the temp probe, but nothing works.

Also, I think there may be an electrical problem with the ground wiring, I've noticed that every five to ten minutes the lights in the house get REALLY bright then become dim, any fan that's on will run high, then go to a lower setting, and our microwave will alternate between high and low power. I think there may be a problem with the ground wire, but why all of a sudden?

Each time the lights in the house get brighter, it's just after my A/C unit has been kicked off.

-- The A/C unit is plugged into a surge protector, and the green "Grounded" light is not on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as it's hotter than all get out, now.

Sounds like the compressor is trying to rotate but for some reason will not. You can try plugging it in else where with out the surge protector. If that doesn't do it open the case (with it unplugged of course) and see if something is obstructing thee fan that blows to the outside of the house as this can keep the compressor from turning. If that doesn't do the trick look for one mark down for the end of the season as some store do start marking them down now.

Is it 120 or240V? If 120v. How old is the unit? If you are not getting cooler air out then the compressor isn't running(see if front coils are icing up.Or check exhaust(back) to see that hot air is leaving. If no hot air leaving then get a new air conditioner(portable/window units are throw aways)If 240V have you checked the breaker in the panel box.Have you tried running it without the GFI?Try a different outlet(if 120.

Yeph, your AC unit needs repair or replace

this is what’s causing the excessive draw on your electric circuit and dimming the lights
