Toddler sleep problems?
I have two sleep issues with my 2 1/2 year old son.
He's always slept in his own bed (except for a couple of months when he was first born and was colicky) until now. Since he learned to open his own door, he's been coming into our room in the middle of the night to sleep with us. We decided to let him do this for awhile and it was a big mistake. So, I want to get him to stay in his bed all night. The problem is that I rarely remember lifting him up into the bed with us, but I know that I do. I don't completely wake up. An option would be to lock his door and turn the monitor back on, but is this wrong? To lock your kid in his room at night? Do you have any idea how I can get him to stay in his own bed?
My second problem is that he's waking up too early. He goes to bed at 7, but he rarely falls asleep until 8 or 9 and he STILL wakes up early. Like before 5 am. Any advice on that issue too?
That's part of the problem... I can't take him back to his bed because I don't wake up to do it!

Not only do I think that is wrong it is a fire hazard. If a fire breaks out and he can not open his door or the lock malfunctions ..... I wont say more. Maybe try a baby gate, although I do not like that either. If you have stairs make them safe with a baby gate and just keep taking him back to his bed. That is the safest method. Or just let him sleep with you. Cosleeping can benefit everyone with a good nights sleep.
ETA - Then me, a co-sleeping parent says, let him sleep. After he is in your bed everyone sleeps fine. Let him go back to his room when he gets a bit older. You can keep starting him off there and tell him before bed he will get a treat in the morning if he stays, (chocolate milk or something) and once he stays, give him the milk..
