Kaberle,kaberle,kaberle....?
Does Burke really expect to get anything for Kab? Honestly, he's getting older, contract expires in a year, and says he wants to stay in Toronto so as soon as his contract expires he most likely won't resign.
So in your opinion what do you think Kaberle is worth, and what Burke's best offer might be.
Billy Bong, he does get 60 points as a D-man, and as you pointed out he is on a **** team. That doesn't seem like a bad thing to add to a resume.

TSN had an interview with Burke who basically said that he's waiting till the last minute to trade him in order to get the best value out of him. there really isn't a team in the NHL who wouldn't want that guy on their team, but I think with Burke holding his cards close to the chest, he wont give him up that easy.
he'll want a solid young forward with potential or a few prospects with high picks

I don't get this. Kaberle has been "allowed to shine" on a poor team and that's why he's producing 50 points a year on a consistent basis? Newsflash people, Kaberle has been in the league 11 years and the Leafs we're challenging for the President's Trophy in several of those years. His best year came the first year after the lockout where he notched 67 points on a team that missed out on the playoffs by a single point, hardly an "awful" team at that point.
Look, Kaberle is not worth a Bobby Ryan or anything like that. Anybody with an ounce of hockey knowledge can see that. He also isn't worth a 3rd round pick. You don't get one of the league's top puckmoving defensemen for mid round picks, expiring contract or not. It seems the preception here is that Brian Burke is an idiot, that he doesn't know what he's doing. I think most of us with common sense an say that's not true. Burke knows what he's looking for and has recently stated that he would also accept a futures package if he cannot get a top 6 forward. If he doesn't get an offer he likes, he'll sign Kaberle to an extension, something Kaberle has said he would be willing to do despite this cirus.
My prediction is if Kaberle does go, it will be for a 1st rounder and high end (but short of blue chip) prospects. Think McGinn +1st or Moller + 1st. I certainly can't see Burke biting on an offer that includes Malone, who is signed long term with an awful contract.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, we all know how this will turn out. Whatever Burke gets, the haters will come out in full force to bash it. If Kaberle returns to his 2007 form, they will all be out as well saying Burke traded a 60 point defenseman for scraps despite throughly bashing Kaberle months earlier.

He said in an interview the other day that he has numerous offers to consider but by waiting to the last minute, he creates an auction scenario where a team that really wants him will throw the biggest offer.
I think Kaberle is worth a lot to the right team, which may be Toronto depending what kind of deals Burke turns down. But where Kaberle wants to come back to Toronto(after his contract expires) Burke has nothing to lose by trading Kaberle unless he's making a cup run this year. I imagine we'll see him go tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Ryan or Backes come for a package deal with Kaberle.

Kaberle is a solid D-man, however, he has been allowed to shine as the best player on a poor team. He is not worth the top six forward Burke demands, at this point. Burke's best bet is to hold onto Kaberle and hope he can get him to waive the no-trade clause at the deadline, then sell him as a rental to a playoff team desperate for some defensive help because lets face it, the leafs are unlikely to crack the post-season line-up this year they still need to mature. However if Burke really wants to unload Kaberle by the August 15th deadline look for him to take a second round pick and a prospect. There is no way Kaberle will fetch a first round pick, so the second rounder and a prospect are his best bets right now unless he takes a lesser NHL ready forward.

Burke thinks everyone is worth way more than what reality says to the rest of the world. Cant blame him for asking for the sky but when the dust settles I see him making a deal for a high end prospect and a pick. I dont see anyone giving up a true top 6 forward for Kaberle and an expiring contract....unless of course it is to rid themselves of their own expiring contract. One rumor that could make sense (from an economics standpoint....but likely not in reality) is Backes going from the Blues to Toronto. As I have previously said the most likely destinations still seem to be Tampa or San Jose. I will venture that if he goes to a good team he gets a prospect that is NHL ready and a 1st rounder. If he goes to a middle of the road type or lower team they get a prospect and a 2nd round pick.

Burke would be stupid to not trade him at this point.
He has pretty much said he's gonna walk away from TOR next season, because he's sick of Burkie's fat, stupid mouth.
And that made his value decrease. Burke would be lucky to get a second liner and a draft pick for Kaberle and another pick.
@Farski: You are absolutely delusional.
An expiring contract for an overrated defenseman @ 4 million + would NEVER fetch Gucci and Clowe. In fact, Kaberle wouldn't even fetch Gucci alone. Maybe McGinn an Couture for Kaberle and a 4th.
And it has been confirmed that Murray and Burke are not talking about the Kaberle trade.

I think fans and maybe even Brian Burke are confusing the value of Kaberle the player with Kaberle the asset.
The player is good, not top 10 D in the league like some say. I think we can all find 20-30 D men we would rather have. The problem is they are trading the asset who is a 1 year rental. He is not worth that much.
The best Burke can hope for is a forward with a similar contract situation. 1 yr to UFA. Otherwise he is looking at a prospect (not yet in NHL) and a draft pick. The pick is probably second round.

Kaberle is still quite a good defensemen but Burke has to trade him before the 2010-11 season starts because if he has a bust of a year then leafs are screwed because they would have no one to trade him too and he only has 1 season so he needs to trade him soon

i still think he is a very good player and packaged in the right deal could still get the top 6 forward burke is looking for.
