Would someone please explain the film "American Psycho" to me?

I just watched the movie, starring Christian Bale. While usually films don't go completely over my head, I was at a loss with this one. I understand it's based on a novel--and I think at the end it means that he was imagining it all? But I don't know. PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME.

It's a very confusing and mind-bending film, but there is only ONE interpretation that is meant. The director (Mary Harron) stated in the commentary that she intended this film to be a dark and sardonic satire. You can notice this, like the blood stains in the sheets when he's yelling at the laundromat employees, when he's dragging the dead body in the hallway and the security guard is completely oblivious, and the bizarre ways that Bateman kills his victims. It's a darkly comedic film, but it's message is clear, he is a yuppie, and since he's such a respected businessman and he makes a profit, nobody notices that he's actually a psychopathic serial killer. And you'll notice all of the rich, hot-shots don't notice his psychopathic tendencies, but his lower positioned and poorer, and seemingly ordinary receptionist notices his psychopathic ways and bizzare behavior, she seems to be the only one not oblivious to this. That's because she's not a yuppie. Like at the end of the film, Bateman's lawyer doesn't want him to go away for murder because Bateman is his highest paying client. His final line is "this confession has meant nothing" he's basically saying no matter how crazy he is, nobody will care because of his status in the market, he's going crazy and all his life he will have to live with this. He starts to get guility and delusional at the end when he makes that phone call, but the dark element is that even his lawyer doesn't care, because of the money he pays him. The dead bodies were dumped because Bateman lives in an obviously very rich and elegant apartment, so if it's discovered that murders took place there, the real estate people would notice a decrease in the quality of the apartment. They hid the bodies so that they could still sell the apartment at a top price, rather than a low price because of the murders. I hope this helps.

Its one of those annoying films like Inception and Memento.

Could be either, youre left to make up your own mind as to whether it really happened or not, I believe the book is the same.

    /edit

Dont vote this down...you cannot possibly know either way. The author of the book said so, its a well known thing.
