  • What is the best funny Chuchill quote?

Churchill: "Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?"

Socialite: "My goodness, Mr. Churchill... Well, I suppose... we would have to discuss terms, of course... "

Churchill: "Would you sleep with me for five pounds?"

Socialite: "Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!"

Churchill: "Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price

My Grandad had loads of these and I thought they were hilarious, what's your favourite?

  • Question for atheists about evolution?

Seems to me that the best argument religious folks seem to have against atheism is attacking evolution as something that is wrong.

    So here is the question:

If evolution was proven wrong (can't be I know, its fact) would that hurt your atheistic views at all?

Cant see it hurting mine whatsoever to be honest...if I'm wrong about evolution that's fine...not knowing an answer to something really doesnt make it any more likely for god to be real. Since it's an argument used so often I guess that at least those using it assume that its going to knock atheist beliefs...but I cant see it working for anyone that's thought it through at all.

  • The pilgrims didn't flee Religious persecution did they?

I see people typing that all the time on here, that the pilgrims left Britain to flee religious persecution.

I assume it was Americans who type that because as an Englishman Ive always been taught the exact opposite...that they left Britain so that they would be free TO persecute people because of their religious beliefs...and I know for a fact that they had some ridiculously strict laws about religion and some very severe punishments for going against what the Church said.

I know people in Britain have done that sort of thing all through our history...but I thought we were kinda over the worst of it by then.

  • Skyrim: Killing Mercer Frey, how?

I just got through the thieves guild quests and Im on the one to kill him, I just about managed to get through the dungeon to him but hes way too hard.

Anyone got some tips or am I just too low lvl and crap? I do barely any damage and he can kill me in about 4 attacks...and my 2 team mates just stay on the doorway fighting something...maybe each other.

Im lvl 15, Ive only got the first dragon shout thingy then I went to my boys in the thieves guild to steal some stuff :)

Relatively high skills are speechcraft, sneak, lock picking and archery. (I think Im screwed because all my levelups have been from thief quests)

  • What's wrong with blasphemy?

Did anyone see the show that Stewart Lee did called What's Wrong With Blasphemy?

I didnt know about it until now...but its really interesting and since its him its funny too :)

    Its here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKxTTWOIce8

Since this needs to be a question...what is wrong with blasphemy?

Nothing at all right? If it annoyed God he could do something about it himself...not that I believe in a God but it makes no sense to me even if he was real.

  • Do TTL values with ping always start at 255?

Just a little extra to my question earlier :)

When I ping places does the SSL value always start at 255?

I thought it did...but pinging 127.0.0.1 (me) gives a TTL of 128...which means its bouncing through 127 routers on its way to me...which isn't true is it? Or does it not mean that at all?

  • Why do sites have different ping and ttl values?

Just messing about pinging stuff and I was wondering...

I know some connections aren't as good as others but what is it that physically makes the ping values different? Is it just busy servers or being far away?

TTL is different too isn't it? Is that just set by whoever owns the network you're pinging? Lower TTL means less traffic on their end doesn't it since the message isn't bouncing around as many times?

  • Only humans have souls in xtianity dont they?

Im sure we were taught that in RE (religious education) at school...its true isnt it? I always thought it was fact.

There was a thread on here about pets in heaven and I said pets dont have souls, so wouldnt go up there and it got thumbed down by about a million people...which makes me think it isnt as true as I once thought :)

  • Heres my theory, sound right?

My theory is that if anyone ever discovers what the universe is for and why we are all here it will immediately disappear and be replaced by something even more bizzare and inexplicable.

My other theory is that this has already happened several times.

  • Standup comedy is massively anti-religious. Same in the USA?

In the Uk and commonwealth it is at least...is it the same in the States? Im just curious as to how it would go down over there...Not just Christianity stuff, just any religious stuff, Ill post a link to Billy Connolly going on about Muslims, would that be ok? Would it be more acceptable than Christianity stuff?

I know George Carlin does it, but hes so big that all his audiences will know exactly what they are in for and can stay away if it offends them.

but in the UK...literally every comedian seems anti religious. From the massive ones (Izzard and Connolly especially) to the tiny ones...same from the commonwealth, (Minchin and Hills), Irish guys seem against it (O'Briain, Ed Byrne, Moran). Cant think of any that dont use religion as an easy subject for laughs.

How would it go down in the states? I know a lot of them change their acts very heavily when touring over there. Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard both definitely edit a lot of their stuff.

Some examples of what I mean, and this is really mainstream comedy over here.

  • Horror movie cliche, someone's bus?

Theres a phrase that describes the thing in horror movies where they kill off the music, make nothing very interesting happen on screen and then make something shocking happen like something jump out and shock you...I cant remember it though. Like in most modern horror films...its cheap and very lame.

Its someone's bus...after a film where a woman thinks shes being chased down the street and it gets incredibly tense...then a bss pulls up and scares you. Its the directors name I think...

  • As a species were getting taller, is that evolution?

I know evolution is a fact of course...and its a fact that people today are taller than people were in the past.

Is this evolution? Or just a bit of random variation that could just go the other way? Cant see how its helping us to survive as a species...unless its because tall people are sexier and get more babies because of it :D

Not technically a religion question...but I know lots of people here are clued up on it moreso than me.

  • Windows security center virus, how to kill it?

My idiot parents have done something stupid and got the windows security center virus onto their PC.

Cant run any anti viruses or browsers. They have Windows XP, which I know nothing about, so I got no idea what to do.

I know its a virus masquerading as anti-virus to steal idiot's money when they register it. All the guides to get rid of it Ive seen just say Safe mode > install spyboy or mbam or whater > kill virus.

Already have those installed from last time they did this, cant run any of them.

Had a look in the processes, lots of stuff Ive never heard of...since its XP. One called hic.exe turns the security center off...at least gets rid of the icon and the program's windows, but trying to run any anti viruses it comes back on.

    Any ideas?

  • Question about Mormons wrt Race.?

I watched the Bill Maher film Religulous.

Its a crap film, hes far too arrogant for my liking...

Theres a bit on Mormons (Im British I dont think we have them) and I dont know enough about them to tell whether this is true or just a joke.

He says that the book of Mormon says that basically white skinned people are the best and dark skinned people are being punished for not believing...but if they go Mormon their skin can change and go white.

    Surely thats not true...
