Standup comedy is massively anti-religious. Same in the USA?

In the Uk and commonwealth it is at least...is it the same in the States? Im just curious as to how it would go down over there...Not just Christianity stuff, just any religious stuff, Ill post a link to Billy Connolly going on about Muslims, would that be ok? Would it be more acceptable than Christianity stuff?

I know George Carlin does it, but hes so big that all his audiences will know exactly what they are in for and can stay away if it offends them.

but in the UK...literally every comedian seems anti religious. From the massive ones (Izzard and Connolly especially) to the tiny ones...same from the commonwealth, (Minchin and Hills), Irish guys seem against it (O'Briain, Ed Byrne, Moran). Cant think of any that dont use religion as an easy subject for laughs.

How would it go down in the states? I know a lot of them change their acts very heavily when touring over there. Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard both definitely edit a lot of their stuff.

Some examples of what I mean, and this is really mainstream comedy over here.

it's the same here as it is everywhere. many are dirty, some aren't. i think comedy and comedians are only following the popular culture that they're in, playing to what the audience wants to hear. Christians are in the minority, and so Christian comedians are in the minority. once the audience stops laughing at anti-religious jokes, then the comedians will go away.

Somewhat anti-religious, although it isn't a topic most stand up comedians address. Americans are more apt to laugh at jokes about race relations, sex relations, and the TSA.

ps- easy to think of three stand up comedians from us who make fun of religion a great deal: Bill Mahr, Bill Hicks & Carlin.

In comedians in America, the topic of religion really doesn't matter. However George Carlin was a biggie anti-theist/atheist.

Yes in Ireland we always take the mick out of people like the priests and the holy religion but we also respect it in a way.

It is very weird but you would understand it if you saw it.

<<Is a exceptionally religious person the terrific person to symbolize country's hobbies?>> There are not any "exceptionally" religious applicants. <<would desire to our President snip upon its human beings.>> Neither Catholic candidate needs to legislate his faith. <<isn't that like what Iran does?>> No. <<is this what Santorum is easily like?>> under no circumstances.
