What can your 20 month old say?

I don't have any concerns at this point, and realize every child is different, but was just wondering what your child was able to say at 20 months.

Currently, my son mostly says "What's that?" for everything and wants me to identify and label everything, which I have been doing. He talks in mostly one word phrases though, words like Juice, Mommy, Daddy, Sashy (for Ashley), TJ, All done, Hi, Knee, Eye, Ball, Kitty Cat, etc. He has a somewhat shy personality and will say these words for daddy and I, but play bashful in front of strangers and unknown family.

He definetly understands more than he says. If I say "wheres your phone" or "go get your shoes" he does it and knows, but is just not speaking in multiple words yet.

Just wanted to see what others were able to do out of curiosity, I have heard of some 20 month olds still only sayin mama and dada, and others that sound like little adults.

Well you are at the beginning of a busy couple of months. This is when they really start to pick things up. My daughter is 23.5 months, OMG, she will be 2 on the 13th. She is now talking with 3 to 5 words sentences, She can say so many words, I really can not count them all.

This is the best time to read, read, read, sing the alphabet song and try flash cards. They are soaking up everything. Just wait till next month you are going to look back and be shocked at the amount of new things he is saying!!!

It is so exciting. It sounds like your son is doing GREAT right now!

It varies sooooo much between children, theres no such thing as "the norm". Your son sounds like a very bright child to me and seems to say quite a bit for his age :-)

My daughter just turned 21 months... She can say MANY things and has been speaking in sentences for a while. I couldnt even start to count the things she says but I am positive its well over 200 at this point. She can count 1-13 frontwards, 1-10 backwards and 1-20 (almost) but always skips 14,15 and 16. She can sing 6 songs completely including her ABCS and can almost spell her name verbally... I think at this age they are soaking up everything. Right now it may seem like he doesn't know tons, but its amazing what a difference of a week can make. Because at this stage they are learning new words and sentences each day and adding them to their daily vocabulary. Continue to read, sing, recite and he will start talking up a storm in no time!!! :-)

My daughter is 2, and talks as good as I do. She talks in full sentences, and can even recite nursery rhymes, she knows her abcs and can count to 15. you really have to work with him, talk to him like crazy, read alot to him, and he will pick things up.
