Vitamin D/Calcium Supplement for Children?

Trying to find something with a lot of Vitamin D and Calcium for my 8 yr. old son to take. Multi-vitamins just don't have enough in them. I am trying to keep my son's bones from getting weak. He may have a medical condition that causes this. I'm just trying to take precautionary measures, just in case. Thanks for any input!

both supplements are available in any drug store otc.

Before supplementing with Vitamin D though, he needs to be tested for deficiency for vitamin D first.

Right now, with the summer months on us, if he gets outdoors in the sun 15 minutes a day with bare skin exposure, his body makes more than enough Vitamin D for him. Winter is a different story.

Why do you need to give him supplements when he can get them from food sources such as milk and dairy products? Give him a balanced diet and plenty of sun (for the vitamin D) and he'll be okay with respect to vitamin D and calcium.

If you do suspect an underlying medical condition that is causing him to have weak bones, take him to a doctor to get tested. Do not diagnose and treat this on your own.

    Good luck!

does he have poor indigestion and no digestion at times? not getting enough roughage in the diet makes the digestion poor. also it reduces the calcium and other mineral in the diet. 1 half of a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water every night and in the morning will help the digestion. start making him eat spinach, broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts. collard greens, mustard greens & poke if you know where to pick it. it grows wild all over the east coast. liver also has b vitamins and iron and other minerals since the liver is where dark leafy vegetables go to in the body according to eastern medicine.

If you have reason to believe he might have a medical condition that is causing it, your best bet is to have testing done first, as supplements could skew the test interpretation so they don't provide a correct result.

After you have that done, then worry about it. A couple weeks or months without won't hurt him further.
