How do you earn a 'Top Contributor' button on your avatar?

Pick one category where you are most knowledgeable. Answer all the questions every day. The more Best Answers you receive the greater chance of being awarded the banner.

According to Y!A : "A "Top Contributor" is a member of the Yahoo Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a certain category. Each user can be a top contributor in a maximum three categories. You earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a certain section. The more positively you contribute, the more chance there is that you will get a TC badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to give credit to community members."

Y!A has never said what the precise requirements are. It's commonly accepted that you need to answer a lot of questions (50?, 100?, who knows...) in a category and get Best Answers on a certain percent of them (probably 10-15%) each week.

You can have TC badges in up to 3 categories at a time. There is no TC badge for the Jokes & Riddles and Polls & Surveys categories.

The Top Contributor badges are awarded by category, so if you want to be a TC, you have to focus in a specific category or two.

Choose categories that you are passionate and knowledgeable about--you'll write compelling answers there and receive more BA's that way.

Y!A will not say exactly how they choose Top Contributors, but here's what's generally thought to be true:

-The TC badge is based on your RECENT activity.

-The TC badge is awarded or taken away every Monday morning. If your activity or BA % drops in a category, you may lose your badge.

-You need to answer regularly-aim for 40-50 answers per week.

-You need to maintain a BA% in that category of over 10%.
