just took a clearblue digital opk. false positive?

i took the test at 6 this evening, when i came back to it, the display had the smiley face. however i took another one later this evening (and a cheapie) and they are negative like beyond negative. barely any second line at all!

weird thing is that the test stick didnt even look positive on the one i used that gave me the smiley.. although i think they are weird test sticks and arent like normal opks when they are digital so the lines are harder to interpret? anyone else had this?

Update:

later, being literally 10 mins later so unlikely the surge was gone so fast. that's why i think its a false positive.. but how is that even possible?

Update 2:

i used the digi opk again too at the same time as the cheapie and it was negative

Update 3:

yes tested both brands yest & both neg

Update 4:

should say yes i tested yesterday mid morning but not since then so i suppose that could have been the end of it. i dont know if those tests have ever given false + i know their hpt's do.

i am not ttc, i am nearly 4 months postpartum and using opk's to check what's going on and to avoid pregnancy (although would be delighted but not ttc yet!)

    Clear Blue Digital Opk

I don't see how you are able to get a false positive on a digital but the lines are supposed to be there, I looked on Fertility Friend's picture gallery and their images of positive Digital CB OPK's show two distinct lines as do the lines from the CBFM.

Perhaps since you left it from the previous morning you missed your surge although I have to say given that your OPK's before this and after are negative I am leaning towards it being a false positive. I would still be careful this week, just in case though.

The cheapie ones are too hard to interpret, just stick with the digital ones. And you're not supposed to go off the lines on the digital ones, it even says that in the instructions. If I understand your question right, you had a positive OPK, then 10 minutes later had a negative. Is that right? Well it's hard to believe you had to go to the bathroom again that quickly. If you made yourself go just to test again, then probably what happened is the first one was correct, and for the subsequent tests, the LH hormone was not concentrated enough to turn a test positive because you peed 10 minutes beforehand.

well i'd say the digital one is correct, and you no longer need to keep testing. The LH was detected and you will ovulate in the next day or so, up to 48 hours, so if you're trying to avoid pregnancy, refrain from sex in the next 5 days and you'll be fine. You should get your period in another 14-16 days.

Clear Blue gave me two false positives. I went to the doctor and did bloodwork. I called the company and they sent me new, digital ones. The ones I had previously were the double lines. I found a website that had nothing but people complaining about false positives on Clear Blues.

it could be to do with the concentration of the hormone the test detects in your urine.

e.g. if you were dehydrated at 6 when you took the first one, the hormone levels would be relatively higher because they would be dissolved in less liquid.

but, remember the hormones will have a cut off point, below which they are not detectable by tests. if sounds to me like at 6 the hormone levels were just high enough to be detected whereas by your 2nd test they had dropped just enough to not be detected.

did you test yesterday? if not, i would suggest that your ovulation peak was earlier on today. still plenty of time left for making babies tho, get to it! :)

Maybe the surge was just very slight, or was going away?
