Old college friend just got married. What can I send her?
A good friend of mine just got married in a very small, intimate wedding (only their parents were there). Although they've been engaged for 3 years, the wedding was a surprise and I just found out 3 weeks later via e-mail. I'd like to recognize their marriage and congratulate them. I usually give money at weddings, but it seems tacky to send them a card with a check. What can I send them as a gift?

Wine glasses
Personalized picture frame or vase with their names & wedding date on it.
Candy dish
Champagne flutes
Gift certificate to a nice restaurant
The check really isn't that tacky, if they weren't able to take a honeymoon it could give them something towards an overnight or weekend trip.

For weddings I always like something glass or crystal, a nice lead crystal candy dish, etc. My favorite is the wedding picture frames that have etched wedding bells, etc. on them, looks very elegant and they will always have pictures to display. I usually get the standard 8 inches x 10 inches as this is most common size. Although, a 5 x 7 is o.k. if you can't find the above, but I would not go any bigger.

If you know her parents, call them to see what they need or if they've registered. Sometimes people who have small weddings or elope still register. There's also the list of popular wedding gfits on Amazon.

You can get champagne flutes or wine glasses and have them each etched with half a heart (and, if you want, their names or each have the day of their wedding). That way, when the glass are set next to each other, they make the heart whole.
