Help with toddler beds?

My son is 16 months. He's been climbing out of the crib, falling and hurting himself. So we got a toddler bed today. Put it together let him check it out and play with it all day. And I went to put him down and turned off the light. The minute I closed the door he started crying. I can hear him running around in there. So what do I do?

Do I keep going back in there and putting him back into bed. Do I wait until he just falls asleep anywhere and then put him into his bed?

Did he used to cry when he was in his crib and when you'd shut the lights off??

It is a change for him and more freedom w/o the bars to keep him safe. So now he must learn self-control or self-discipline.

You just keep going in there and put back in his bed and make it very clear to him that it is time to go to sleep. Tell him that he has to STAY in his new bed that everything is just the same except now he is in a big boy bed like mommy and daddy. Tell him goodnight and walk out. I would not go in there if he cries; they usually cry a little and then get over it once they realize that you are not coming back. But if he gets up then he will get in trouble (and swat his bottom) and let him know that you mean what you say.

Sometimes this will only last for one night, one hour or it can take a few days. But you MAKE him stay in his bed.

i am going through it right now i feel ur pain

ive been putting him to sleep make sure there is not light in there and lay him in bed then say night night

then read him a story or come up with one then if he gets up again say no be very serious then say go back to bed trust me he understands then stand on back of the door and keep saying it over and over ill give you two nights after that he will fall right to sleep put your foot down its what you say not him ....learn from experience

yeah, just keep putting back to bed until he gives in and falls asleep. if you're willing you could stay in with him until he falls asleep, but beware it may cause more harm than good and you'll be spending every night lying next to him until he drops off.
