What do you think will happen at Jon Stewart's"Rally to Restore Sanity? Is this a Democratic get out the vote?
I'm perplexed by this. I understand it's supposed to be a grand piece of satire that was, in part, a response to Glenn Beck's Rally to Restore Honor rally in D.C. earlier this year. But it would seem Democrats are almost giddy about the fact Stewart will be firing up Democratic voters (Democrats certainly aren't firing up with their actions and words) before the midterm elections (a few days after).
What's strange is that this seems entirely too predictable and not what Jon Stewart would do (ie shill for a Democratic party that wants to maintain control of Washington)? He hasn't exactly been super impressed with the Obama presidency, judging by many of his recent monologues, and doesn't seem enamored with either major political party. (Tonight he compared voting for Obama to buying a Magic Bullet from an infommerical at 3am, then being disappointed when, like everything sold in infomercials, turns out to be the same piece of crap. He then says "I guess what I'm saying Mr. President is 'I don't know who is to blame: You for making this sh*t look so good, or us for believing it')
So do you think he will do what Democrats are hoping he will? Or are they in for a bit of a surprise?
Mr. Smartypants..........."(also the expose' they did on unions last night!) "
That was HILARIOUS.
kevin............"The Democrats are doing fine, but people just need to wait."
Not going to happen. When you promise sweeping "change" you better do it. Otherwise you're just a very good salesperson with no product.

Comedians(Beck, Stewart, Colbert) are doing what politicians should be doing but some may say they are preaching to the choir. Again, politics in America has turned into money and talkers keeping their jobs. These "real politicians" cause the real problems.
Media manipulations are out in such masses & messes these days. We are too divided to accomplish anything meaningful. Many of today's politicians will not support what they ran on to get elected. Most of the elected are too busy selling themselves so they can have good pay and benefits in 2011.
Jon Stewart has had enough with comical news because it is far too easy see comedy in major network broadcasts. Truthfully, after seeing Jon Stewart in the past readily appearing on 'real' news networks and telling it to them I wish it were Oct 29 so I could wake up tomorrow to go to the National Mall. CNN canceled Cross Fire not too long after Stewart was aired on their show; CNN probably didn't realize Stewart would sock it too them with facts and without so much comedy. Jon Stewart is very knowledgeable. I hope Stewart has the WAKE UP AMERICA rally like the name of it suggests. Humor would be nice as well but more of a message is needed.
Colbert should follow with his fear and punchline politics which oppose Stewart in some areas and views. Colbert could be degrading Stewart's commentary in some way while he exasperates similar topics with his unique dialog. Maybe then after this they will debate? I would love to see this debate with a final agreement and speaking on what is agreed. Maybe this will be an ad-hoc event leading to the agreement, who knows. I plan on attending, might let people from out of town stay at my place.
Stewart/Colbert will motivate some people to get out to midterms regardless of which way they vote. People in the range of 18-25 yrs old plus hardcore conservatives and active liberals will be most readily influenced.
Some call this the closest thing in recent times to Woodstock while others just say it is a comical stunt. I am voting for Woodstock if there is a choice but no drugs in this edition. I've seen people on Facebook stating they have flights and reservations for everybody, including kids. Other places like reddit.com demonstrate the younger audience looking to find any way whatsoever to get to DC. I don't think anyone except Colbert, Stewart & Viacom have a clue as to what the end result will actually be and how it is achieved..

Jon Stewart is hilarious. Obama is doing a fine job. People just need to wait. I wish Obama would have just told that one lady that, but of course he's a politician and he wouldn't do something like that. The Democrats are doing fine, but people just need to wait. The economy won't get better overnight, or even in the next couple years. The recovery is progressing and will take a while.

I'm glad you saw that (also the expose' they did on unions last night!) This shows what I've been pointing out for a long time. 'Conservative' media belong to the Republican Party. They never criticize Republicans in any real way, they never point out when Republicans abandon their principles for expediency--which they do constantly. 'Liberal' media criticize both parties alike for their hypocrisy and lack of principle or integrity.
Yet conservatives and Republicans believe right wing media completely, and believe 'liberal' media are only shills for the Democratic Party. In fact anyone who doesn't buy the Republican line (and hook and sinker) is seen as a Democrat shill, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the 'Democrat Party'.

It isn't about a Democrat response.
The point is to have a moderate response to fringe rallies. Glenn Beck isn't even in the middle of the Republican party.
As Eisenhower (that far left liberal as he is known in fringe Conservative circles) put it.
"he middle of the road is all of the usable surface. The extremes, right and left, are in the gutters."

i dont think its supporting democrats or republicans. the rally is to give moderate people a voice. so to speak haha. he pointed out how the extremist democrats were calling bush "hitler" and also how extremist republicans are calling obama "hitler" the rally isnt supporting or against any political group. it is just calling for more people to be more civil. but in a satiracle way

I don't think that as many people will spend their life savings
to see Jon as went to worship Glenn Beck.

Truly, there is absolutely no comparison....simply because viewing television relies on the gunky creativeness of a Television set entertainer who's main concerns are budget, ratings and popularity and to Hell with theme integrity, or, for example, anything truly creative.

I think you give the man way too much credit, he is after all a comedian. I watch him to get a good laugh, that is about it.
