Salisbury steak is a dish made from a blend of minced beef and other ingredients, which is shaped to resemble a steak, and usually is served in brown sauce.
Meatloaf is a dish of ground meat formed into a loaf shape and baked or smoked. The loaf shape is formed by either cooking it in a loaf pan, or forming it by hand on a flat baking pan. It is usually made from ground beef, although lamb, pork, veal and poultry or a combination are also used.

As far as I am aware a Salisbury steak is just the mince whereas all types of ingredients are added to the mince to make a loaf.
Any recipe will call for all types of things like garlic, onion, carrots, herbs etc.

It's the way they're cooked. Steak is typically a grilled "slice" of beef and meatloaf is ground up meat (sometimes beef, sometimes turkey, sometimes both) mixed together with other ingredients like breadcrumbs and baked. So basically, the difference between steak & meatloaf is everything...preparation, ingredients, calories, etc.

Salisbury steak is ground beef made to be shaped like a steak, and served with gravy, while meatloaf is often served with ketchup and cheese.
