Is it really a BIG problem to overfill oil?
I have a 2005 Ford 500...3.0 Duratech 6 cylinder. Never a had even 1 problem. A friend changed my oil instead of a shop for the first time. I've been unemployed for a year and trying to save $. He put 5 1/2 qts of oil i , instead of 5. I know it's not a good idea, but is it a big issue or just something that factory recommendations say to avoid liability. I also know that over filling trans fluid can blow a seal. I guess I'm asking if this possible with oil also, or is is not that big of a deal..
sorry if I duplcated this Q. Got an error message and may have sent it more than once not knowing if it went through

here is the funny part, the dipstick is wrong, it has been since 1983. that engine holds 6 quarts.

If you are really worried simply unscrew the oil filter and empty it an screw it back on. But a half quart of engine oil is not likely to cause any problems.

1/2 quart is not likely to cause any major problems... but it you're concerned, just have your friend loosen the oil pan plug and drain out that 1/2 quart.

A 1/2 quart won't hurt it. Check your dipstick, it will probably show ok, the filter will hold 1/2 quart.

Half a quart is not going to cause a problem. Why don't you get him to put it to the right level for you anyway.

No it will be fine, just oil will slosh up on the crank and cause more reciprocating mass, which means you lose some power and fuel economy.

if you over fill with oil it can make the car blow white smoke.
