How is it that Britain has way more atheist than the USA by percentage but also way more psychics?
USA somewhere between 3% to 9% atheist.
Britain somewhere between 31% to 44% atheist.
Yet Britain is called by most accounts the most haunted country on earth with way more psychics than California.
This isn't a complaint, in fact to me it's entertaining; but it does seem a bit odd.
@ Robert Abuse
It is entertaining, I wish I lived there myself, it seems a lot more civilized, did you know they give away health care there? LOL

I would say firstly education and secondly that we rather like stuff like the Loch Ness Monster and haunted houses. We don`t take it all that seriously though, well a few people do I guess, mostly it is just an amusing diversion, like reading a book or watching a film on the telly.
Edit: We are very proud of our National Health Service.
Get sick see the doctor, get well ... hopefully!

There are way too many psychics here, however they're used more often as entertainment rather than as genuine guides.
Most people would describe it as "a bit of fun."
There are some who genuinely believe in all that spiritualism nonsense (I know a couple), but most take it with a pinch of salt, like those teens who mess with ouija boards.
Btw I am not sure the confirmed atheist count is that high. We're closer to about 12%. The majority just regard themselves as agnostic or "don't care"
(edit) As Robert says above, we love ghost stories and it's almost mandatory for a town to have it's own crazy myths and legends. Mine had one about a doctor who ran out on his pact with the devil and tricked him into crossing running water, a friend's town has two huge hills, and the local legend was about them being the burial mounds of 2 giants who fought each other to the death over a woman. People probably believed this stuff up until the 19th century.

You claim that Britain has more psychics than California, and than the USA. What are your sources for those claims?
If it is true, one reason psychics might be less popular in the USA may be because we have many more Christians here who'd superstitiously associate occult things like psychics with the Devil.
perhaps Christianity's condemnation of the occult reduces the popularity of psychics here in the USA.

Most of these polls are conducted with an ulterior motive.
British people....if they existed are rather reticent..when it comes to questions about Religion,Politics,Sex and Money.I would call these people English.
Scottish people like I am are definitely religious-minded due to the history of the country.
Irish people don't consider themselves British unless they are Ulster protestants.
Welsh people have a sense of religion based on a separate idea of Christianity..Methodism as opposed to Anglicans in England. The Welsh have never been independent.Their country is a principality.
Britain has many ley-lines running through it's length.
Druids and ancient forms of worship predated Christianity and Christianity when it happened here was distinctly different...even heretical...until Roman won the day and the battle.
Joseph of Arithmethia is rumoured to have brought the young Christ here to Britain for the purpose of the tin industry in Cornwall.
Glastonbury Tor has a building rumoured to be the site of Josephs visit at the top of it.
The Rose line or is it St Michael's line cuts through this ancient mystical land where King Arthur and Avalon may be.
Up in Scotland outside Edinburgh you have the church at Rosslyn and the legends of the magdalene and the Knights Templers.Pontius Pilate was rumoured to have been born outside Glasgow at Cumbernauld.
British Atheists in comparison to American Atheists have a more gentle way with them. It's probably because educationally they are far more cleverer than American Atheists who are rabid and rude at times and Britishness in itself is more defining as a feeling amongst people without the polarisation that Americans conduct themselves.
We have history on our side as a nation far older than the USA and we have learned to accomodate each other regardless of what we believe.
If there was such an expression I'd go as far to say that our Atheists are Spiritually mature...just remember my tongue is in my cheek:).

i think of of that the atheist minority have been given right here to a end that enable them to to now no longer have self assurance God extremely than have self assurance there is none. and how do they count variety variety who believes in a God and who does no longer? Do you reside indoors the country and undergo in innovations taking a ballot? i think of of the Christian church counts somebody as Catholic till they formally ailment. So somebody could have been an atheist for a protracted time and be regardless of the undeniable fact that seen a Christian theist. Many information are made up. somewhat lots all are erroneous. and regardless of if atheists are a minority in u . s . a ., in medieval situations many human beings concept the Earth substitute into flat.
