is a 1 carat diamond big enough?
ok im serious i know nothing about what size of diamond is good.
im looking at getting my girl an engagement ring and found this: Very Good-cut, D-color, VS1-clarity, Heart Shaped, 1.06-carat Diamond.
is this going to look ok on her hand? i dont want it to look to small but not to big.
what i want to know is, is 1 carat a good size? i ask because this diamond is the biggest and best i could find in my price range. if i go to the 1.5C the price goes from over 20k for the just the diamond.
thanks all.

1 carat is a great size, definitely not small and not obnoxiously large either.
Are you sure you want a heart shaped diamond though? If you know your soon-to-be fiance will love it go for it, but most girls I know would prefer something more classic and elegant. Otherwise it sounds like you've got a great quality diamond picked out.

A 1 carat is plenty big, especially of that quality. I have a .52 carat and I love it, not because of the size(of course a bigger one would be cool) but because I love my husband and it was a gift from him. Probably the most important gift a man could give a woman. One change I would make is to get a higher cut grade. Cut is what makes the diamond sparkle, so I'd go for ideal or excellent, depending on the grading agency. You could go down a bit on size to get a better cut, or you could go for a VS2-SI1 which are still very good clarities. Even going to an F or G would not make any visible difference. I bet if you chose a .80-.95 carat, with VS2 clarity, and G color you'd save a good amount of money, which could go towards a really nice set of bands. Do not worry about .75-1.00 carat not being big enough. It is. People nowadays want to push it to their absolute spending limit instead of thinking about what they could do with the money they saved from downgrading slightly. One more suggestion would be to get a round shape instead of heart. Heart shaped is in style now, but a round shape is timeless and classic.

I have a one carat diamond and the size is perfect without being too big or too small.
However, I question a heart shaped diamond and whether it is the right choice. Hearts are cutesy and unless you are positive your girl would be over the moon to get a heart shape diamond, please reconsider. Otherwise, if you KNOW she will love it, go for it and pay no mind to me.

this might sound cliche or vulgar, but size isn't everything. sometimes the added weight (carats are a unit of weight not volume) may interfere with the clarity of the diamond. i bought my fiance a .38 dream cut hearts on fire diamond and it looks HUGE! find a hearts on fire retailer. the angle in which they cut their diamonds is different letting more light reflect through the surface.

Ask her what she likes.
My engagement ring is a 1 ct diamond equivalent and at times I consider it too big. It's the biggest of all my peers, so by no means too small.
How the stone looks will highly depend on her hand. A stone can look huge on lean fingers, and chubby fingers can shrink it.

Yes thats plenty big! Some ppl get .5 carat or less! She'll love it! I like hearts but make sure your fiance likes them too b4 you get it!

I'd say 1 ct is a good size, however the heart shape cut tends to make it look smaller. As long as the diamond doesn't have major flaws, and you're happy with it.. she'll be happy with it! Good luck and congrats!
