All fish in ponds do this at this time of year. If we have a warmer day they may resurface, but they spend the winter at the bottom where it is warmer. Also do not feed when it is colder as the food will not be eaten and decompose, making the water quality bad. They usually eat enough and store during summer months to last the winter.

Start feeding again around end of march when it starts to warm up (or earlier if warmer earlier) when they start to appear again. They will be fine.

Maybe stupid mean people scared them and traumatized them... At my old high school, we had a pond with a 15 koi and 3 goldfish. We had a sub-teacher one day and the stupid teenage boys grabbed poles and tried sparring them and was doing stupid immature stuff. The next day when the teacher returned, she mentioned to the advisory class how the goldfish were all at the bottom and not eating. 2 girls told her what happened and who did it. The boys got suspended for 3 days.... Anyways, that was my last year at that school. The rest of the year they never recovered. I don't know about now...

Maybe a raccoon or cat scared them just a little.

@ DAVE 1: HA I didn't even think of that, but you are 100% right. I was just giving out ideas=)

They do slow down this time of year... Don't worry!

Its the time of year. They will go into hibernation mode to conserve energy as the days start to cool down. Don't worry about it.
