Shouldn't Obama try to appeal to independents for the 2010 election instead of "firing up the base"?

Not sure where the he and the Democrats are going. Independents (those that will vote either Republican or Democrat) are the deciders in most elections. Seems like their strategy is flawed.

Update:

I thought Obama and company were smart politicians. I mean going after the Chamber of Commerce and so on - what is the point? The only ones that care about that are the untra-lib blogasphere. As much as I disliked Bill Clinton - at least he got it - "It's the economy stupid".

Update 2:

emp - I was talking about 2010 only.

Update 3:

If there is so much to be impressed by why isn't he touting his accomplishments? This "we need to be patient" mantra only goes so far when unemployment is still hovering around 10%. To many average people it would appear that the ruling majority ignored what they were voted in to address - the economic crisis. Instead they pandered to their agenda that they had waited so many years to inact. They dropped the ball. Obama included.

Update 4:

I'm not a fake - just hoping one of these people that get elected has half a clue as to what is going on in the real world. Obama is failure at that.

He can't appeal to Independents unless he suddenly repeals all his crappy legislation.

Source(s): Obama lost the Independents the day Obamacare passed. He has been working hard on alienating moderate Democrats since.

Oddly enough, independents that aren't already "fired up" don't show up for campaign rallys. He's probably hoping the "loyal" will bring the independents along.

And in two years, do you seriously think anyone will remember today? I remember when the Iraq War had 70% approval by the American public back in 2003.
