Should i get gymnastics grips?

Ok well i am a 16 year old level 5 and am currently not using grips. My hands hurt quite a bit on bars and i rip frequently. I am not sure if i am continuing next year but if i do how long does it take to break them in? Also did you see any benefits to your bars after purchasing grips?

I am a level 5 too! I had the same problem for a while so here is my advice:

Yes, get them. I didnt want to at first but my coach wouldnt let me compete without them. I dont know if I will continue next year either, but for the year they are nice to have, and when you quit you can always sell them to another gymnast. It varies, a lot of my friends got used to them right away, but it took me a few months. I still have issues with them sometimes. What helped me with breaking them in was I wore them for about two months, then I took a break for a week or so and it made me realize how much more comfortable they are. They make tap swings way easier, and back hip circles are much easier...They also help your grip when doing front hips too.

    Warnings:

Talk to your coach(es) about how to wear them. Make sure you have the right size and make sure you are comfortable.

Your wrists may hurt A LOT at first, but they get used to the grips. I had bruises at first. You just gotta tough it out.

Make sure you use the barb wire brush to rough them up so it is less likely to rip off the bar.

On tap swings ALWAYS make sure you regrip on your back swing so you dont fly off the bar (it hurts, trust me haha)

If you have further issues talk to your coaches. And If you can't adjust to them by the time competition comes around, tell them, and Im sure you will be able to go with just your bare hands.

You do rip less with grips and your hands hurt less, but you do still rip. You rip on your fingers and wrists, but they are less frequent

There is a way to fold your grips and it speeds up breaking them in, but Im sure you can learn that from girls at your gym

Good luck Girlie!!!!! (: If ya need anything e-mail me (:
