para 1911 malfunction?

During a brief shooting outing tonite, my buddy's Para 1911 jammed, and badly. Worse i've ever seen. The gun was cleared fortunately. the slide would not move one way or the other more then a few millimeters. Couldnt get the slide stop out either. The gun functioned flawlessly for two magazines, then had a failure to eject, (dropped the mag and cleared like a type three) and after that case was cleared, was locked up in battery.

He just had the ramp polished by a guy i consider to be a gunsmith of questionable skill. I am wondering what the issue could be, broken or otherwise screwed up link or link pin? Yes, we removed the barrel bushing and spring as well.... still nothing.

Any thoughts from you 1911 fans??

Update:

I didnt think the feed ramp polishing had anything to do with the malfunction, i was thinking what else could have happened while it was there.

I dont let anyone work on my own stuff...unless its hopeless!

Update 2:

the ammo was standard WWB.

Something to do with the link would be a good bet. I've had one break on a 1911 before.

My pistol failed to eject because the slide didn't move back. Racking the slide manually cleared the spent round. I could hear a loose or broken piece rattling around inside. However, my pistol field stripped easily.

Maybe a piece of broken link is jammed and somehow obstructing the slide?

But on the other hand, it seems doubtful a broken link would still allow the pistol to flawlessly fire 2 magazines. Hmmm...

My 1911 jammed up pretty bad like that, but not in battery. I had just put in the mag that came with the gun with the action back, tried the slide release, and it was stuck. The slide wouldnt budge either way, nor would the mag release. Both of the feed lips had busted at the same time. I had to disassemble the magazine and let all of the rounds but the jammed one come out the bottom. I then had to force the last one down the mag body with a stick. Mag released after that, and no problems since. I only use wilson combat mags now...

I can not imagine how simply polishing the ramp would jam the gun, unless the gunsmith took off so much metal that the bullet would feed straight up.

Is he shooting reloads? Too hot a load?

If he can not get the link pin out, he may have broken it.

You asked" Any thoughts from you 1911 fans"?

Here's my 2 cents worth....Don't let people other than you, work on your guns...this is the 21st century, we can afford the equipment needed to fix most of our own stuff, why let some person whom we don't know fiddle with something he can just screw up...I do all my own work and if it's too technical, I have my stepson who has a masters in metalurgy and a top machinist figure it out...those guys can build anything !......and it works !

Source(s): sorry 'bout the bad luck, whack on it with a rubber mallet for a while......at least you'll feel better even if it doesn't come apart !...LOLOLOL!!!!!

I'd send it in to Para. I think they'll overlook a little gunsmithing.
