PLEASE tell me about YOUR toddler's sleeping patterns...?
I have a few questions regarding toddlers and how they sleep.
1. How old is your toddler? (Please be specific since there is quite a difference in a 1 year old that's 12 months or 20 months, just as there is a big difference between a 2 year old that's 24 months compared to 30 months, etc.).
2. Does your toddler sleep in a crib? Toddler bed? Twin bed? Your bed? Other?
3. Does s/he sleep through the night? If not, how often does s/he wake and how do you get him/her back to bed?
4. Did you use any technique to get your toddler to sleep? To get your toddler to sleep on his/her own? Please be as detailed as you can.
We have been transitioning my 2 year old (24 months) into a twin bed. Much of the process has gone well, but there are a few hurdles we're trying to conquer. So, that's why I'm asking this question.
THANK YOU!

1. How old is your toddler? 31 month old boy.
2. Does your toddler sleep in a crib? Toddler bed? Twin bed? Your bed? Other?
He sleeps in a toddler bed with a rail. We started him in the toddler bed at about 26 mos old.
3. Does s/he sleep through the night? If not, how often does s/he wake and how do you get him/her back to bed?
In the past 6 weeks he downright refuses to sleep in his bed at night. We are trying to get him back into his room. Its been a real problem for us and he wakes up 1-6 times a night crying then runs out of his room. He use to run into my room and try to climb into bed with my husband and I. That stopped after 7 days of taking him out of our room repeatately, with him having a fit the entire time. Now when he wakes he cries, has a tantrum then runs into the living room to sleep on the couch.
So far we haven't broken him of this Although we are trying very hard to remain consistent with getting him back into his bed. We are still trying different methods to get him back into his room. So far we've tried a new bed, a new mattress, nightlight (on & off), bedtime only toy, baby gate to block him from escaping, new "fun" bedding, no sugar 3hrs before bed, lavender message after his bath, reading a favorite book before bed, laying on the floor next to his bed...etc. The list goes on and on.
We keep the same bedtime routine: diner, bath, he picks his PJ's out, we have cuddle time (with both mommy & daddy) brush teeth then bedtime. We will just try and keep doing what we've always done and pray this is a phase that will pass soon. Its not easy we haven't slept much and I'm 4 months pregnant!
Good luck and know your not alone in the battle known as "Bedtime"!!
If you get something to work please share your secret :-)

1) My son is 23 months old - 2 the 30th!
2) Toddler Bed since he turned 22 months old
3) Sleeps through the night, occasionally will wake up. I just lay him back down, cover him up and leave the room, fall right back to sleep. Happens maybe once a week.
4) No real technique. Ever since he was a baby he has always slept in his own bed (we have a monitor). If he would cry (as a toddler) we wouldn't pick him up, just soothe him while in his bed/crib (unless he was sick), then leave the room. This caught on real quick, him realizing that he wasn't going to be able to get out of his bed once he was in there. When we transitioned him to a big boy bed all his toys were put away so he couldn't play with them, the lights were turned off (he never has needed a night light) and we have to lock the door from the outside (we have multiple steps in our house and its for safety reasons!). He would get up, but I wouldn't go in there unless absolutely needed. I didn't want him to think that when he got up when came in there. A couple times he slept on the floor and we let him but he rather have the comfort of his bed so he now crawls in there himself if he gets up. We do let him have "Scout" (a talking stuffed animal that sings songs etc) in his bed. It keep him company and occupied until he drifts off.

1. 15 MO
2. He sleeps in a portable crib. Note that I have heard that toddlers should transition to a toddler bed/twin bed close to age 3. Before then could lead to sleeping challenges (depending on the child of course).
3. Sometimes. Lately, he has taken to waking around 3 or 4am and crying for about 2 minutes, then back down for 10 minutes, then up and crying for 2 minutes, and so on for about 45 minutes. He eventually goes back to sleep and stays asleep until 6 or 6:30am
4. We have a standard routine, which helps a LOT. Dad takes his clothes off and they run around with baby in the diaper; I turn on a CD of soft music and give him a bath (lasts 7 to 10 minutes); I change him into his PJs, put a blanket around him and lay him in his crib. He is out like a light w/in minutes. Note that this happens due to the fact that we used a "sleep training (CIO)" method when he was 6 MO. Otherwise, he would not get to sleep by himself.

1. He's just turned 24 months.
2. He sleeps in a twin sized bed, it's a low down one though. He's been in it since he was 15/16 months.
3. Yes, he sleeps 12 hours at night, sometimes a little more. Bedtime is between 7 and 7.30pm.
4. Nope, I was just lucky. Every second night he has a bath and each night we read a story together in his bedroom, then have cuddles, then he does into his bed and goes to sleep.

I have four little boys 4 nearly 5, 3 & 13 month old twins. They all have the same bedtime routine, we have baths and get pajamas on between 7-7.30pm, than we all sit on the couch and I read a chapter or two of which ever book we are reading(currently working our way through the chronicles of narnia) and my twins have a small bottle of milk during this, than they are tucked in at 7.45pm and are usually asleep by 8pm, I check on them at 8.30pm and at about 11pm before I go to bed.
The twins may stir occasional(may once or twice a week) once during the night but usually settle themselves back down within a minute or two and only rarely do I have to get up to them and it usually because they are sick, they are still in cots. My 3 & 4 yr old sleep through the night and have for years the only time they are up during the night is if they are sick or need the toilet, they sleep in single beds.

15 month old girl - toddler bed
She typically does sleep through the night. Bed time routine firmly established for 6 months now.
- Bath time, including several minutes of water play
- Night time lotion (with Lavender)
- She and I cuddle in her rocking chair for a few minutes and then..
- I lay her in her bed with a baby doll she loves to cuddle and turn off the lights
- I still use her baby monitor to keep track of her at night
= She will typically whine for about 5 minutes then fall asleep
= If she crys loudly or whines for more then 5 minutes (rarely) I go back and redo the rocker to bed steps
Hope this helps

AGE: 20 month Old Boy
He sleeps in the bottom bed of a bunk bed, sharing a room with his older brother
He doesn't ever sleep through the night and he gets up at least twice ( I'm 38 weeks pregnant N this is very tiring)
He goes to sleep well on his own, gets into bed by himself and I tuck him in and kiss him good night.
My Toddler is having some real issues with sleeping still and i dunno why..

my son is 22 months. he has been sleeping in his bed, which i a twin bed, for about 2 months now. his bedtime routine is simple. at 730, he gets his bath. after that i read to him and put his pj's on. i let him walk around a little. then by 8 pm he is in his bed. he has a little step stool he climbs in his bed. i squeeze his singing barney doll and put his blanket on and i say nightnight, mommy and daddy loves you and leave. we stopped the cup of milk at night because he will be getting potty trained soon, so i dont want him to have to pee in the middle of night. we also put night lights up for when he wakes in the middle of the night (he did that in the begining, but now) plus its dark when we wake up and start or day. he NEVER sleeps nor slept in out bed. if he gets out, i put him right back in his bed. oh and yes sometimes it can be a fight to get him in the shower, but usually not a fight to get him in his bed. the shower time is his "wind down" time. i dim the lights and everything and just talk about him going night night.
