Why do people pick and choose parts of the bible to adhere to?

Also why do they completely deny facts that are against what they believe?

Look up Mithra before you start spitting nonsense. How many times must this stuff be proven wrong before it goes away?

"To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." - Cardinal Bellarmine, 1615

This is a serious question so please don't dismiss me or tell me I need Jesus. I don't need him children all over the world need him. Haitians need him, Darfur needs him. Children who can't eat or go to school need him. But he simply doesn't care or is unable to do anything to help them.

The Bible answers all your questions with simple answers. It is just a matter of knowing where to find them. For example, you asked "Why do people pick and choose parts of the bible to adhere to?"

First the Bible tells us that all of it is inspired and benefitial for everything (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Second, given that it tells us what we need to know, it also gives us prophecies regarding how people would denny God and teach human doctrines, how they would be like you are mentioning.

(2 Timothy 4:2-5) . . .. 3 For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. 5 You, though, keep your senses in all things. . .

    (Titus 1:14;1 Thessalonians 5:6;Acts 17:21;1 Timothy 1:3;1 Timothy 1:10;1 Timothy 4:1;2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Now this is NOT to be taken as hatefull or rude/mean. I am just stating what is in the Bible. That is what God thinks and anyone who dennies or goes against what he thinks and against his will is will have to give account before him in due time. Many of the calamities we are undergoing right now are because of human opresion. The hunger that some people go through and the suffering is because other humans have caused it.

(Jeremiah 10:23) 23 I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

Now can we because of this say that Jehovah or his son Jesus do not care for us and simply do not do anything? What does the Bible say?

(Psalm 37:10) 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.

(2 Peter 3:8-10) 8 However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. 9 Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. 10 Yet Jehovah’s day will come as a thief. . .

(2 Peter 3:17-18) 17 YOU, therefore, beloved ones, having this advance knowledge, be on YOUR guard that YOU may not be led away with them by the error of the law-defying people and fall from YOUR own steadfastness. 18 No, but go on growing in the undeserved kindness and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him [be] the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

(Luke 21:34-36) 34 “But pay attention to yourselves that YOUR hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon YOU 35 as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. 36 Keep awake, then, all the time making supplication that YOU may succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur, and in standing before the Son of man.”

(Mark 13:32-33) 32 “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. 33 Keep looking, keep awake, for YOU do not know when the appointed time is.

If you would like to know more about this and other themes, next time Jehovah's Witness come to your door, ask them for a free Bible study at your convenience. You will never regret all the knowledge you will acquire and remember that what you do with that knowledge is your choice.

The Ten Commandments are far more basic than the laws against wearing blended fabrics or touching a dead pig. As for those latter laws, Paul had a great deal to say in his Epistles about the impossibility of following every detail of the Law and about the supreme importance of faith. He also, said in effect, "To each his own" about the dietary laws. Meanwhile, Peter had had a vision (Acts 10) that pretty much did away with the concept of kosher anyway. Right now, incidentally, I'm reading the daily selections from Isaiah that make the point that what God really wants is not adherence to the laws spelled out in early books like Leviticus but is "the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving," "a contrite and humble spirit." The Old Testament itself grew and evolved. (Bottom line, however, yes, we probably all do. Even when we've read the entire Bible, we probably do, whether we know it or not. For one thing, we don't all interpret every line in it the same way, and for another, we certainly don't all have the same idea of what's important and what's not. And in some cases we actually know more than those human beings thousands of years ago who thought they were writing down God's orders did.)

Cardinals are Catholic and therefore are not Christian. Did you read the part where the earth was cursed as a result of sin? Sin still exists in the here and now. What can be said for the parents who have the ability to take care of those children and do not? What about the despotic regimes that ensure their suffering? What about the fact that no one preaches Christ to them?

Most Christian's don't even know most of the bible that they pick and chose from. They just assume that every thing is the same as their parents told them and their parents told them. So it continues and the say that having abortions is wrong and loving another member of the same sex is wrong. Why? Because the bible says so. Well guess what the bible was written by man. Man makes mistakes. Get over it.

    You forget something:

The folks who believe in the literal truth of the bible have never read it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they had read it, they'd have to believe in a cockatrice--- a serpent hatch from the eggs of a cock whose mere glance could kill (Isaiah 11) or in satyrs and witches (Exodus 22). You'd have to believe in unicorns(Job 39) and (Psalm 92).

And if you say that these are just metafores, then you are starting to use your reasoning, that these are just fanciful.... and then where does it stop?

Is then Adam and Eve just a fanciful tale? And then, was there really a talking snake? And then, ..... it goes on and on. There's ons more.

So, these folks never read it. And thus can belive anything they want, and deny all the rest as even existing.

Hey it takes a real act of faith to believe that god wrote this, and believe it is his absolutel truth.

Actually we humans are the one's that don't care because we allow it to happen. As a person who believes in Jesus, I pray for the very things you mention above, but in all honesty. We are the Blame.

People pick and choose from the bible, because it benefits their religion..that's why

Following all of it literally would make you a sociopath (murder, rape, slavery...), and following none of it means you're not a christian.

Don't ask me why the latter choice isn't an option for some people.
