What are the pros and cons of keeping old books?
I hoard my books and they are filling my house. Do you keep yours? How do you decide what to keep and what to do with the rest?

Depends...if the book was good and I wanted to recommend it to one of my friends, I would keep the book and give the book to them so they can read it. If it was a decent book but not worth keeping, I would sell it to the nearby bookstore for some cash.

Main Pros: Books are great, better to have books around than old magazines or useless knick-knacks. Having books around at least makes ya LOOK smart!
Main Cons: Take up a LOT of space, potential fire hazzard, pain in the *** if you have to move.
I've had the exact same problem for years now. I did a huge purge a couple years ago but they keep multiplying anyway. lol
Protocol for choosing books to rid yourslef of:
1.Will you EVER re-read it? If yes Keep,if no,get rid of.
2.Was it a gift? If yes,at least TRY to keep. If no,get rid of.
3. Is it RARE(old, hard to find, obscure,an original print run copy, unique somehow)? If yes, keep. If no,get rid of.
TYry to find booksellers that'll offer credit or cashe for your unwanted tomes and if they don't want 'em take 'em to a local charity store like the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

I love my books and couldn't imagine being without them but i do realize that they are increasingly taking up space. I dont think you should get rid of them.. who knows when you might want to reference one, lend one to a friend, or just enjoy them again. If they are really taking up too much space maybe you can create a list of all the books you have and box up and storage the ones you need or liked least. that way you still have them for whatever reason and can still display or have handy those you really enjoyed or may reread. the thought of books being wasted makes me sad. if you really have all that many maybe you can create your own library. so many communities have lost funding and libraries are closing. you could create a website with a catalog of all your books and then lend them to local students/people.

I don't want to tell you how to live your life bro but you should buy a big treasure chest (or 44 gallon drum) and bury them in the Forrest then make a map, put it in a bottle & throw it in the sea.

Cons: They take up space.. Thats about it
Pros: You always have them to re-read. Whe your our of reading material you can go back to one you haven't read in a while. You can lend them out to people; start your own library. You can give them away as gifts.. To me, each book I've read is full of memories.. I would never get rid of them.
