So what's the point of NXT?
I thought the point of NXT was to have ONE breakout star in the WWE. However, instead WWE has almost all of the rookies to Smackdown! or RAW.
NXT Season 1:
Wade Barrett
Daniel Bryan
Michael Tarver
Skip Sheffield
Darren Young
Heath Slater
Justin Gabriel
David Otunga
Wade Barrett won NXT Season 1, therefore he should have been the only one going to RAW or SD! Then all of the sudden every single rookie has a contract on RAW? What was the point of having NXT if you weren't going permanentley eleminate anyone? They should have just aired FCW instead.
NXT Season 2:
Alex Riley
Percy Watson
Husky Harris
Joe Henning
Kaval
Titus O'Neil
Eli Cottenwood
Lucky Cannon
Kaval won NXT Season 2, he should be the only one going to RAW or SD! But instead Husky and Joe are on RAW and possibly a part of Nexus? And Alex Riley is Miz' manager? Husky and Joe shouldn't be involved with Nexus in any way IMO. And Alex Riley isn't helping The Miz in any way what so ever! Miz is doing great! Just had some great US Title reigns, Mr. Money in the Bank, he doesn't need someone to help him cheat!
So my question is why have NXT? What's the point of having a show for one FCW superstar to make it to RAW or SD! if 4 other "eliminated" rookies are going to join him anyway?
@JOEL:
You're right, they are all worthy of being in WWE. But the whole point of NXT was to have ONE rookie to advance to SD! or RAW not EIGHT rookies.

Okay, I think I'm going to start a sort of conspiracy theory here with my opinion.
NXT was Vince's way to, uh, counteract whatever TNA has planned with the whole Hogan/Bischoff "regime". They started by making a bunch of changes; each one fairly small but enough of them to make TNA a "different" company than it was. They brought in a bunch of Hogan's buddies from WCW, teasing an nWo reunion. That didn't work out so well (fans didn't want most of those "old" guys) so they turned AJ Styles (the face of TNA) heel and put him with Flair. Then brought in RVD and Jeff Hardy, two of the most famous wrestlers in the business. Flair put together a Four Horsemen-like stable and Abyss went nuts and started talking about "They". Sting and Kevin Nash started warning everybody that "things are not what they seem" and hinting that Hogan was up to no good, and making VERY vague comments about WCW. EV 2.0 was formed from the roster of the original ECW. All of this set the stage for a monumental shift in focus and direction for TNA. Of course, we know now that shift was "Immortal", an nWo-like stable led by Hollywood Hulk Hogan, encompassing seemingly half of TNA's roster. Whether or not recreating nWo-era WCW will succeed in the long run is irrelevant. The fact is, they did it.
You can bet your house that Vince knew about this long before TNA played it out on TV and PPV; Vince has spies everywhere. So he laid the groundwork to counteract this. First, NXT. Seemingly a "contest" for eight "rookies" to get a chance at a "WWE contract". After two seasons of NXT, we see that the "contract" was just a ruse; they all already have WWE contracts. The real goal of NXT was to establish a group called "Nexus", an open-ended stable where members can come and go as needed (like the nWo); they can even force new members to join, and those who get kicked out don't try for revenge (like the nWo).
The WWE now has an established heel faction that can wreak havoc on the entire roster, and just their appearance alone can change the mood of a show (again, just like the nWo). Barrett is the leader (like Hogan was the leader of the nWo), he calls the shots AND chooses the members. Nexus is an open-ended faction established to basically control the WWE, with members coming and going (like the nWo).
And the unknown in all of this: the "anonymous GM". They've deliberately not put a body in that role in order to not "show their hand" before TNA gets their "Immortal" faction established and their intentions known. When "the time is right" THEN Vince will put a body in the role of the "anonymous GM". Who that body is depends on the success of the "Immortal" angle. The more successful it is (i.e. Impact ratings and TNA PPV buys go up) the more likely that "anonymous GM" will turn out to be Vince McMahon. Vince can then take command of Nexus (whoever the members are) and "wreak havoc" on the rosters, with the angle being to get rid of the boring "old" "superstars" and replace them with his Nexus members. Alternatively, the "anonymous GM" can be somebody else in charge of Nexus trying to rid the WWE of the "old" guys and later Vince "comes back" and reclaims HIS company, starting a war with Vince leading the WWE faction against Nexus.
NXT was just a way to establish the open-ended Nexus faction, as a way to counteract whatever TNA does with "Immortal".

The answer is simple. They are giving the wrestlers a chance to compete in the
Wwe. NXT Season 1 winner was Wade Barrett and instead of releasing the rest
of the contestants they gave them all contracts to be part of Raw. Daniel Bryan
Amercian Dragon Bryan Danielson never belonged on NXT Season 1 he's a pro
not a rookie he's one of the best wrestlers in the world today so, why not bring
him back and give him a contract to be part of World Wrestling Entertainment.
NXT Season 2 this season was somewhat similar to Season 1. The winner was
KAVAL who by no means isn't a rookie, he's a pro too. He deserved to win the
competition just like Bryan Danielson deserved to win Season 1.KAVAL though
is not getting the opportunities that Wade Barrett is getting he's jobbing over on
Smackdown. And plus, the only kept Joe Hennig, Alex Riley and Husky Harris.
NXT Season 3. The new Diva's competition so that my girlfriend A.J. can win that.
NXT Season 4. Will have Tyler Black former Roh Ring of Honor World Heavyweight
Champion be part of the competition he wrestling in FCW new name Seth Rollins.

I agree completely. It would appear to make no sense to have someone "win" the competiton, yet the "losers" get to join the main roster anyway. It totally defeats the purpose of competition. However, it is all part of the youth movement WWE are putting into action. They have realized that they can no longer rely on guys from the Attitude Era to continue carrying the company and that is why the Nexus invasion has been the main storyline in WWE for the last four months.
They need to create the "superstars of tomorrow" and NXT is a way for them to give the guys/girls some air time every week and see how the fans react to them. Undertaker and Kane will be retired within 2-3 years, Edge has already spoken of retirement numerous times, Matt Hardy has been released, Triple H is riddled with injuries, Chris Jericho is on tour with Fozzy and Christian is out for six months. The stars of the Attitude Era are slowly but surely departing, which means WWE must step up and bring in some new guys to liven things up again.
That is the purpose of NXT.

The point was to bring new talent in. However, there was a change of plans. They brought every single person in which was a mistake. Everyone who has been kicked out of NeXus is out because of an injury. They brought too many in, and now, they have to bring Husky, and McGillicutty in to take up space among the group.
I don't think bringing one in would be a good idea, and I don't think bringing eight in would be a good idea. I believe that just bringing in two or three would have helped the show. For example, season one, they should have brought in Barrett, Danielson, and of course, Gabriel. However, they treated Danielson like trash, Barrett like a god, and Gabriel like a puppet for Barrett. If they are oing to bring in eight guys at one time, they need to do a better job of managing them.
...never saw anything in Eli, never said this about a wrestler, but, stay in the Indies!
Titus o' Neal, stick to minor league football, see you back in a few.
....luckily, Lucky Cannon didn't win, it would have been a botch celebration.
Oh no! Percy Watson should have his own show, next to Ellen.
...they have a job offering at Wendy's, Slater, file an application!
I just had a mrk-out moment with the NxT rookies that I'm not a fan of. Anyways, back on the issue, the whole point of it was that they wanted more talent, but instead, their ultimate downfall was bringing in TOO much talent.
If WWE wants them in the company, they should at least treat them better. As you pointed out. Alex as a manager, and Husky and Joe as replacements. They sould be treated as if they were the second coming of NeXus, and not fill-ins. They should send most rookies back to Florida Championship Wrestling or put them on the returning Tough Enough.

It was basically a way to introduce the FCW guys to the wwe universe. All the first season NXT guys got on TV, but 1 by 1 they weeded out the ones they thought would not make it and sent them back down to FCW. With Season 2, Riley, Harris & little Mr. Perfect were the 3 wwe are giving a chance to in addition to Kaval. Logic would dictate the winner would be the guy with the contract, but logic doesn't work well in wrestling.
The only difference between the winners and losers is the winner gets a guaranteed title shot of their choice.

In a way will answer your question. With one answer above in regards of showing who these rookies are instead of popping them on Raw have to agree. Since most of these superstars are from WWE's minor leagues, can not think of the name, it is a great way to show who they are. As an idea similar to Tough Enough show how they live and train together. Then not eliminating them take votes from viewers of favorite superstar. The two with the least votes wrestle each other; one moves on to have a shot at the rookie belt. Now the one who loss the match will stay on the show, will be
out of the running though can be incorporated in feuds. Along the way WWE stars make some apperances on the show. Then in the end the final two superstars wrestle it out for the belt. Who wins is guranteed a match against who they choose and at a PPV event. Now minor details would be logistics of training and being involved with a live audience.

Hey, its nice to see you back again!!
The whole point of NXT is to bring in new wrestlers to take the spots of old or retired wrestlers. I could see AJ Lee being the next Mickie James and so on. But i agree with you to a certain extent, if the whole point was to "eliminate" a rookie then why are they still in WWE? Maybe a special appearance like 6 months later would do but i thought it was to eliminate one rookie (erase them from WWE) and then give the winner a title shot. But they keep all of them and i think its just stupid. As for Nexus, they were amazing in the beginning, now its pointless and Cena being in Nexus really isn't as good as i thought it would be. I think they should just drop the whole NXT thing now, they already lost their TV deal and theres really no point to anything NXT related now. I think they should just drop NXT. Its become so pointless now, everything that's NXT related lost its taste already.

I agree that it would have probably been a little cooler just to introduce FCW, but I think it's quicker to get younger talent over by incorperating the them directly into the company, and you're comment that Alex Riley isn't helping Miz is extremely accurate but did you ever think maybe they're using Miz to get Riley over?!

NXT was just a cover up for WWE taking WWECW off the air. There is no point of having the show air anymore. Why cant WWE just push wrestlers without having a competition that only a couple hundred people watch. NXT is an excuse for WWE not pushing all the wrestlers from FCW.
- 1 decade ago
Because WWE's brands are sh*t and they need wrestlers. Even though Harris and Riley aren't good wrestlers along with David Otunga
Darren Young
Heath Slater
Michael Tarver
So I actully have no clue, they're probably desperate for storylines.
