Why do Christians indulge in idol worship?
Idol worship is condemned in Bible just as it is condemned in Quran. But Muslims don't do idol worship, whereas Christians do idol worship. Hence can't I say that Christians are not obeying Jesus (pbuh) whereas Muslims do?
Exodus 20:1-15
And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, ...

Exodus 20:5
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,
Most of you make a picture/idol of Mary and Jesus and pray to it believing it has got supernatural powers. Some people even put it as pendant in their neck. This is obviously one form of idol/image worship. We Muslims don't do that
@ Marysia: hahaa this is what people call it as idol/image worship. It doesn't mean you are praying to image/idol
even making an idol/image of God is sinful. Read the above Bible verse carefully.
First of all it doesn't refer to Jesus (pbuh). it refers to the Almighty God

There are many christians who are caught up in religious tradition and can not get out due to their own pride! And then their are many who are taught the wrong thing so they are going on someone else's word. They are confused by things they read in the Bible and lean on someone else's opinion most of the time.

who on earth thinks that a picture of Mary or anyone can do ANYTHING -- it's just a picture. can you not comprehend the difference?
the whole worshiping of a statue thing still bugs me - not your saying it - but the fact people can't understand - it's not the statue it's just the person behind it. the love for the person would be there statue or not. i guess it's hard for people to understand & i can see why they think differently. i'm prone to horrible dreams, not just nightmares & they are very real. when i wake up (I live alone) & throw on the light & see my picture of Jesus, the cross with flowers on it (reminding me of the Resurrection) & yes another picutre with Mary holding the baby Jesus - i'm comforted & reminded I'm not alone. it's easy to say that in time i'd remember, but i need that smack back quickly. sometimes the tears or the fears are too much. anyway....
what throws me abut the muslems - the have the same type of respect for Mary so i always assumed they had a little more insight than i guess i gave them credit for.
No Rcc who knows anything about the Rcc has ever worshipped a statue (a in pagan idolatry). If we cherish the memory of political and war hero’s, what more noble a hero than one who died for God. Are they not worth honouring? Statues are simply a reminder a visual aid to the hero’s of God, the Christian faith. If they were not why in Rev 6:9-10 are they under the altar of God asking how long it will be before the will be avenged on earth? They are there, it tells us, watching and waiting. Scripture back up – 1 Per 2:17, Rom 12:10, Heb 12:22-23, Heb 11, 2 Cor 3:18
BTW, I have many pictures of family, friends, the Last Supper, Crucifix, Nativity scene etc in my home. They could all be destroyed tomorrow (& some were in my flood) it did not diminish my love for the person or my strength in my faith.
why did God give people artistic talents?
why do you have pictures in your home?
when you kneel in pray beside your bed - are you worshipping your mattress?
in Islam when you kneel on your prayer rug - are you worshipping the rug?
when you bow toward mecca are you worshipping the wall or tree or whatever you're bowing down near!?
when you are praying beside a loved one who is ill or dying - are you worshipping them?
guess what -- some people have a brain and can comprehend..... i recommend trying it,it's wonderful.

You don't know Christianity. You are right, the Bible condems idol worshipping, you are right, Catholics worship idols. You are wrong, if you think Catholics follow the Bible as their final authority. The evangelica Christians are the ones who DO NOT WORSHIP IDOLS. They regard the Bible as the final authority. Yes, Catholics are not obeying Jesus. But CHRISTIANS (evangelicals) DO obey Jesus. So, as you see, you should accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, since you do not have to worship idols, but only GOD as a Christian.

first of all, there are 2 sections of Christianity: Protestantism and Catholicism. you're in all hazard touching on Catholicism. i'm a Protestant, so i individually do no longer do the finished "hail Mary" element, yet i be attentive to that the "photos" or "Idols" you think of they have are basically monuments. The monument itself isn't a god. Your argument would additionally say Muslims worship the logo of Islam, or that Jews worship the action picture star of David, or that non-non secular people worship activities athletes via making statues of them, or that all of us is worshiping the lifeless whilst they make a tombstone and pray on the tombstone.

I have never bowed down, served or worshiped a carved wood or any other image. I take it a step further, I will never serve a false image of God in my head either as some do.
Jesus is the only way.

Christianity forbids idol worship. They do make statues, but they are not idols, and not worshipped as such. Icons, and pictures of Mary/Jesus are used as reminders of faith, but they are not to be prayed to, and they have no "magical" powers.

Catholics bow and pray to Mary/Jesus/Saints
Not Christians.
You are right though..it is Idolatry...but Christians don't do that..
