Is DNA paternity testing anti-feminist?

...according to well known feminist author Melanie McDonagh who writes for the Spectator Newspaper in the UK it is...the follwing is a quote from the article.

"DNA tests are an anti-feminist appliance of science, a change in the balance of power between the sexes that we’ve hardly come to terms with. And that holds true even though many women have the economic potential to provide for their children themselves…Uncertainty allows mothers to select for their children the father who would be best for them. The point is that paternity was ambiguous and it was effectively up to the mother to name her child’s father, or not… Many men have, of course, ended up raising children who were not genetically their own, but really, does it matter…in making paternity conditional on a test rather than the say-so of the mother, it has removed from women a powerful instrument of choice."

Update:

@Felina Gato...what a ridiculous comment you make ..I simply quoted directly from the article and there was no out of context quote at all...her point is quite clear and obvious when you read it...so you must not have actually read the article ...either that or you just have an agenda of your own.

    Everything quoted is 100% correct.

    I'm just shocked at the admission to it all.

    Paternity test does remove a powerful instrument of ambiguity from women

    Perhaps it does not help the cheating mother that wants to get pregnant by one man and make another man take care of that child. Yet, this woman was doing something that was morally wrong on multiple counts. Why would I sympathize with her that a DNA test would not allow her to get away with this?

    If, on the other hand, the father makes a false accusation that the woman was cheating, and he says that the baby is not really his, it is very simple for a woman to prove that she is telling the truth now -- have him take a DNA test. Before the invention of the DNA test, this kind of false accusation could last for a lifetime without resolution... Now, a father can know he is biologically related to his kid, and put that worry to rest. If you think about it in that sense, it improves the lives of women who have NOT cheated, because they can provide PROOF that the child is the father's biologically. Without that ability to provide proof, fathers could make an issue of their paternity concerns to the mother for a very long time.

    Since I'm not a woman trying to commit paternity fraud, I feel very, very positively about DNA testing. I wouldn't hesitate to have one done to prove to the father that the children are his, even though I'm already certain, I feel good knowing I can provide certainty to the father as well.

    you mean to say that its removed from women the power of desciet and manipulation.im sorry but if u **** around with no birthcontroll having the ability to create life you shouldnt be able to lie to a man and trap him just cuz you couldnt keep your legs closed wen a shitty ******* wanted to **** u. use birthcontroll so u wont have to lie to a man.praternity tests expose sluts and ruin ther chances at ******* up a mans life.it also brings sins like incest into the light so we can stop it.so take your medicine if your a lying **** that cant controll her ability to create life with birthcontroll.get a job and raise your kid plenty of women do it without the fathers help

    I've not read the article, but yes - feminists here demonstrate that DNA (paternity testing) is anti-feminist.

    I recently answered in a similar vein only days ago:

    ~~~
    Feminists pretend, knowingly lying, that only women suffer. They actively fight to marginalize or retain areas where men suffer. For examples, feminism in general is heavily against DNA testing of children and insist that a man should be someone he fully trusts (i.e. take her word) or simply don't sleep with her - while pushing the notion that women can sleep around and if they don't like the results, simply abort the baby.. without needing any input from the alleged dad.
    Why are they so scared of DNA testing? Is it because finally the power dynamics that women have been able to abuse to their advantage (paternity fraud/taking money off one man while making another man bring up the child with her) is suddenly levelled off?
    Feminism seems to be saying "Women, do what you want and have zero accountability - Men, you must be fully accountable with no room for movement"
    How sexist!!! (but typical)
    Wow! I thought all feminist we about equality, this one clearly answered that question.
    This article is proof that men are walking atm machines , this feminists clearly think that as the child is being taken care of , who cares who pays. Feminism is becoming more and more of a joke every time I read articles like this
    That doesn't even make sense. How is it equality to deny the biological father the rights to his child? This builds on the idea that children are the property of their mothers, while their fathers retain no rights to them. Beyond that, this is essentially saying that women should be able to have sex with whoever they want, regardless of their relationship status, without consequence. If my wife gets pregnant with someone else's child, I feel like I should have the right to know. Though, the fact that it's even a possibility would probably be grounds for divorce to me, regardless of the paternity.
  • Wow...she sounds like a total fruitcake. Of course it matters whether or not men are being deceived or misled! It's not like we're talking about some sort of trivial matter here. The impact is not only on the father but on the child as well!
    May I just say: for what it's worth (likely not a whole lot), some feminists here have gained some respect in my eyes. I am very pleasantly surprised to see feminists openly criticizing this rather than defending it or ignoring it.
    This is absurd hog-wash! DNA testing is not "anti-feminist". If a woman has gotten pregnant and has had so many sexual encounters that she doesn't know who fathered the child she has a serious moral problem. It has nothing to do with feminism and everything to do with lack of morals and self esteem. In other words... she's a *****.
  • I agree with the lady who said this woman is crazy. Of course it's not - it is the ultimate manifestation of accepting responsibility where it truly lies - rather than seeking to impose whatever a woman wants it to be.
    Typical subjective ZFJ ********, and 'oppression' mentality coupled with entitlement.
    That's what comes of sitting around in perfume-filled rooms and working things out with a bunch of lunatics - you lose contact with reality.
