Do you mean an original BC? Of course you can see your current birth certificate at any time - it's a public record. If you were legally adopted, however, the BC would have been changed to your adoptive parents' names.

It depends on the state you were adopted out of. Each state has varying laws that apply to adoptee access for birth certificates. Most adoptees, can apply to the agency and or state they were adopted from and be given non-identifying information (non-identifying means no names, addresses, etc...) meaning the ethnic, medical, educational, and physical descriptions, that were taken at the time of your birth and adoption from your biological families. Most states have sealed birth certificates, but once again, you need to know the state you were adopted out of. If you need any help with this there are many free search and support lists in the nation that will help you with this. Please feel free to contact me at karenbelangertx@yahoo.com if you want.

Well they will definitely have rights to their adopted birth certificate, whereas the original it's dependent on whether the adoptive parents have access to it. My daughter is adopted and it's a closed adoption. We have the original birth certificate. This is very unusual, but in our case we were lucky enough to have it. The original can usually be accessed once they turn eighteen regardless.

    LOL @ krissyly's answer.

Almost every state in America has sealed records, and so no, not many adoptees get to see their own original birth certificates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealed_birth_records
