I'm going to a wedding and I won't know a soul?

My personal trainer invited me to his wedding that's a couple weeks away. I accepted, but I'm not really looking forward to it, because besides him I won't know anyone there. At best, I might recognize some faces that work or go to my gym, but that's it. And I won't have a guest to bring along either. The worst part in my head is the mingling time between the wedding and the reception. I can just see myself standing alone with a drink. Sure, I can try to strike up a conversation with the familiar faces at the gym, but it seems awkward to me. Any tips/advice?

    Let me get this straight...

You're not happy because your personal trainer hasn't gone out of his way to make his wedding more enjoyable for you. Do I have that right?

I get it. Nobody likes to feel like odd-man-out in a social situation. But James - this isn't about you, kid. This is about your personal trainer inviting you to witness perhaps the most significant event of his life. Buck up, pal! Be a good sport. Get dressed up, bring a nice gift, smile, be friendly and I assure you - you'll have a great time.

Worst case scenario: you have to make nice with strangers for a few hours. If nothing else, it will build character.

I agree it might be awkward but try to have a good time. Believe me when your at a wedding time flies by. Just relax enjoy the dinner, drinking and dancing. Don't be shy talk to as many people as you can.

Uggg I totally feel your pain that would definetly be me in the corner. If the family and friends are nice sociable people it may be a breeze. However if they are not and it becomes to awkwrd just make an excuse that you will have to leave early due to a prior engagement.I doubt he will care because he will be focused on the day and such.Fingers crossed for ya.

So, why would you go, pray tell? Tip: decline the invitation.

Just get accompanied by one of your other friends whom you are well familiar with. This friend may not be familiar with your invitee also.
