Why are they called Dutch?
I've always been a tad curious.. in the Netherlands, why are they called Dutch?
You go to Germany, they are German. Italy, they are Italians.. just a simple question.

I don't know the reason, but I suspect you could find out by doing a bit of googling. I do know, however, that they hate Germans because of the atrocities of the second world war, and dislike be called Dutch because it is too close to Deutsch, the German word for German. Hollander and Netherlander are preferred.

Languages spoken in the Netherlands in medieval times were called Diets. The German language is called Deutsch. The English speakers of that time mistook it for the same word, and called it Dutch.

North and South Holland are certainly 2 provinces of the 12 that make up The Netherlands; they don't seem the % out of the rustic as an entire. The word 'Dutch' certainly meant 'from the persons) and dates lower back to the middle a jointly as.

the ppl of Holland are called dutch because they're were mistaken to be Germans(Deutsch/Deutsche) when they immigrated to America.

Well people from Denmark are Danish. I dunno I just can't imagine calling them Denmarkians. And Netherlanders...lol doesn't fit. But neither does Dutch...hmmm I don't know know the historical reasoning behind it :) interesting ?
