I absolutely hate mushrooms...is it still possible for me to become vegan?

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about me becoming vegan. I did some searching, trying to find some vegan recipes. I found many. Although it seems that a lot of the recipes call for mushrooms, which I truly hate. (The ONLY exception is in the Kashi frozen entree Chicken Pasta Pomodoro, because the sauce is so strong that I can't even taste the mushrooms.)

Basically, my question is, what could I do? Does anybody have any ideas?

Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated! =]

Veganism is way way way way way way way more than simply mushrooms. Veganism is about doing everything possible and practical to stop exploiting animals and to stop treating animals as property. This includes but is not limited to NOT using animals for food, clothes, sciences and entertainment.

Diet is a part of veganism and you can easily avoid mushrooms as a part of that. However there are lots of mushrooms and lots of mushroom recipes and it could be you just haven't found the right one or haven't had a good preparation of mushrooms but even so you can easily avoid them.

This is Donald Watson's definition (the correct definition seeing as how he coined the term Vegan):

"..the word "veganism" denotes a philosophy and way of living which

seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment."

I have been an vegan/vegetarian for long periods of time without eating mushrooms. I believe if you do some more research you will be able to find plenty of recipes without mushrooms.

I am still wondering if this is a serious question.....

Ok, first off, my only suggestion to you is this. There are over 50 variety of mushrooms out there. Unless you have tried them at least once. I don't think answering this question is suitable for you. That being said. Yes it is still possible to become a vegan. There are hundreds of legumes - vegetables, pastas, and other product that don't have eyes or a heart beat. And there are countless websites/books/youtubes/shows on how to be a vegan and be healthy.

I can't stand mushrooms. Never liked 'em, never will!

I have been vegan for over 20 years.

    Does that answer your question?

Search other sites and look for other books. Many, many, many, many recipes don't call for mushrooms.

"How can I become vegan as much as possible?" Stop eating meat, or animal by products. Stop using leather and other products made from animals. Stop eating produce and grain that comes from farms. They are fertilized with waste and/or bone meal that comes from factory farms. They also utilize space that destroys wildlife habitat. And, farmers usually trap, poison, shoot or exclude animals that forage on said crops. Stop eating anything that was pollinated by honeybees- the practice of beekeeping is tantamount to slavery. Stop using a car- it pollutes the environment, killing animals. Cars also kill many animals directly, especially invertebrates. Likewise, do not eat produce that was delivered by modern conveyance. Stop producing trash. Stop wearing synthetic "vegan" clothing; it is not biodegradable, and pollutes the environment. Stop mowing the lawn. Stop living in a house. Removing the building materials from nature kills animals and destroys habitat. And, the space the house takes up was once wildlife habitat. Urinate and defecate outside (but not always in the same spot), so as to not pollute waterways with sewage, killing animals. There are many more ways to be a good vegan, but nothing short of living naked in the wilderness will make you completely vegan. Good luck.

Yes you can. And a lot of vegans won't even eat mushrooms because they are grown in chicken **** most of the time.

Just don't use mushrooms in your dishes. Replace them with summer squash or tempeh or something. I honestly love mushrooms, but it's been several weeks since I've had any (they don't look so great lately.) They're great if you like them, but are by no means a staple.

Of course. There is no requirement that a vegan include mushrooms. I am not sure what you rationale is. Why do you think you have to eat mushrooms??
