Is it possible to be half Native American and have very light blond hair and blue eyes?
Genetically I was thinking if someone of Northern European descent and very light coloring mated with someone who was Native American the child could be blond and blue eyed right? I'm trying to find out if my ancestry is what my mother said it is. I know not all Native Americans are stereotypical very tan and dark haired people, but is such a light blond common? If so are there any tribes this is more common with so I can find more information?

Naaaa....people throw out the "half" Indian claim without really thinking about what that means. It is impossible for a FB Indian to pass on BLUE EYED GENES unless they have SOME European ancestry...it is a recessive EUROPEAN gene. Only when both parent pass on this recessive blue-eyed gene will the child have blue eyes.
Also, there are "light" half bloods...but not usually totally WHITE skinned. Only a small, small minority of truly half-blood Indians would be confused for "Northern European"...and although I've seen some with light brown hair...or with some highlights...you don't see them with "very light blond hair"...(now...if your are talking LESS than 1/2 BQ...sure...any phenotype is possible).
Your ancestry is probably not what your mother says it is...but don't worry, it is pretty common thing - Indian Blood Myth Syndrome makes people forget how to calculate fractions...it is such a terrible disease.

hair and eye color is genetics not regional. even though most of the native americans in the area have dark hair and brown eyes, it is possible to have blonde with blue eyes because if you look back in history the europeans pretty muched raped and wrecked the natives and if you have the other half of you as european then you also have that gene in you stereotypes are only a little true always remember that

I come from the pacific northwest where we dont get much sun except in the summer and even our full bloods arent very dark skinned. I have never seen a half indian with blue eyes, unless mom and dad were half indian, half white. A common mix is white mom, native dad, which sometimes results in a very pale, light blond baby with brown eyes (but more likely light tan kids with brown hair and brown eyes). The blonds usually darken up as they get older, their hair turns light or dark brown and their skin turns olive or honey colored. My siblings and I are 1/16 less than half, my mom is 3/8ths indian and my dad is 1/2. Both are olive complected with dark brown hair, but my mom has blue eyes. Two of my siblings were blond when they were kids, but their hair is brown now and they both have blue eyes. My other two siblings have very red hair and had light skin as babies, but now one is a light honey color (she has green eyes) and the other olive (he has brown eyes, and his hair is a darker red). I am the only one who has dark brown hair and eyes. My skin was a light tan as a child, but is now a sort of light olive. It is more likely, if you have any native in you at all, your dad was probably hal or a quarter, posssibly 3/4 but not likely hal. Often times family members will invent an indian in the family history to make themselves sound more exotic.
