Odd pregnancy craving!?

I have an odd pregnancy craving that I've had in both my pregnancies. I love sponges. I'm not talking cake sponges, I'm talking bath/kitchen cleaning sponges. I buy a large pack of sponges, sit there and literally suck, chew and knaw at them until they're all worn out in which I bin them and start a new one. I can't do the washing up with a washing up sponge without having a brand new one in my mouth and I could literally sit and chew on one for hours on end.

There's something about the scent, texture and taste of a new sponge that gets me. It doesn't bother me when I'm not pregnant and I bin them when the taste/scent goes away. So odd.

Has anyone else had this or heard of this? In my first pregnancy I only craved bath sponges but this time I can do kitchen sponges with the scouring pad tops and bath sponges.

I only wish I was joking. Why couldn't I crave Nutella on chips like other people?

Update:

That's the thing, my iron levels have always been excellent. My midwife ran blood tests and I'm not deficient in anything, least of all iron. She thinks it's Pica but there's nothing anyone can do. So odd.

You may be lacking other minerals, not necessarily iron (chewing ice is more typical of an iron deficiency).

Pica is kind of fascinating, but also annoying for those who suffer from it. This is the first time I've heard of sponge cravings, but at least you don't want to eat coal or chalk or laundry powder! :-|

I am currently 38 + 2 days pregnant w/ my 3rd beautiful daughter. I never craved food with any of my pregnancies, it's sooo weird! I crave smells lol! With my first daughter I craved the smell of windex and with my second and now third I crave the smell of rubbing alcohol! How incredibly strange is that?! I mean obviously I don't sit around all day huffing in the fumes of these things but once in awhile I do like a little smell! I must be the only woman in the world with this strange craving...I wonder! Good Luck!!

Talk to your doctor about that. I can't remember what it's called but if you're craving non food items it's because your deficient in certain vitamins. Pretty sure it's iron. But your doctor can give you the vitamins so the cravings stop.

Here's a website that explains it:

Among the many important responsibilities dog owners have, training a dog is among the most important. Learn here https://tr.im/epOKw

Well-trained pets are easier to care for and love, cause less damage to your home (and theirs), and live happier lives.

Dogs send myriad messages with their bodies and their voices -- this is one reason why they're so fascinating and beloved. The more you understand their messages, the more you understand them and how your own messages are being understood.
