GAS FURNACE - What's that rapid clicking near gas valve .?

I have a Goodman gas furnace and want to address the rapid clicking that occurs near my gas value. The furnace works, but at times will shut-down and re-start immediately followed by some rapid clicjing. (Sounds like popcorn popping)

I changed the ceramic ignitor last year and it's still operating properly, but somebody suggested it may be my flame sensor and/or limit switch, they too need to be changed from time to time.

I noticed that the flame sensor has a single wire leading to the gas value too, CAN THIS BE MY ISSUE ?

The clicking is the control module sending a spark to relight the pilot since the module is not detecting the flame. You might try cleaning the sensor tip to get the clicking to stop. The sensor only has one wire as the current actually travels through the flame.

My guess is it's the gas valve. I had a Goodman furnace in my last house. I started getting that clicking, and it turned out to be the "Smart Valve" made by Honeywell.

This is the primary safety valve for the furnace, so you can't repair it. It's actually designed to destroy itself if you try to take it apart. Because of these things, they can be tough to find online.

The good news is that these have a 7-year warranty. If your furnace is newer than 7 years old, get a factory-authorized service company in to give your furnace a checkup. Tell them about the clicking, and they might be nice enough to give you a new one.

If it's older than that, you're going to need to get a new one anyway. They don't last too long when they start clicking like this. They aren't cheap, but getting one now will be a lot cheaper than on a 3am service call sometime in January.

That indicates a gas leak that you can find by spraying all gas fittings with a soapy water solution like dish detergent & water. Shake well then spray all fittings, gas will bubble where it's leaking. If you're not familiar working with gas then call your utility co ASAP for a gas leak. Consider shutting the main valve off until they arrive. We had a gas leak & the guy from the gas co couldn't find it & was about to leave, his elbow nudged a supply line at the boiler & the pilot ignited the leak & burnt his shirt, i asked him again, are you sure there's no leak?
