Why dont they ever clean the chicken?

Whenever I watch food network I notice that they just pop the chicken into the fryer or whatever without rinsing or cleaning it first. why is that? isnt that gross? and why dont they ever season meat... they sprinkle a little salt and pepper and thats it. i dont believe it possibly taste good! ur opinions?

Update:

Miz Lamb, actually I do... your food must taste bland. And if the meat you buy from the grocery store with the blood stains at the bottom of the white tray is your idea of clean! I beg you NOT to invite anyone to dinner.

Update 2:

GROSS! WASH THE MEAT...!

That blood in the bottom of the plastic store container is the same blood that is IN the chicken so what would be the point of washing it.

Ditto beef or pork. All meat has meat juices inside it and that is blood and other fluids, the same thing that drains onto the plastic.

In fact, if you are a bit of a germaphobe, I am surprised you wash it. It is NOT recommended at all.

Washing the chicken causes water to splash and if that chicken were contaminated with salmonella, you now spread that salmonella all over your sink area and the water could easily splash onto stuff you are not aware of and in any case you would need to now sanitize the entire sink area.

Don't believe me? Next time you feel the urge to wash your chicken, lay brown paper all over everything so you can easily see where water splashes. You will be surprised.

As to seaoning, I also prefer my meat simply seasoned. I like the flavor of the meat and all I need is a bit of salt and pepper.

Yes there are lots of recipes with all kinds of elaborate spices and that is fine for a change but good old salt and pepper on a crisp chicken portion...mmm.

Cooking shows also usually have everything prepped before they film. For example example if they are adding chopped garlic, usually the garlic is already chopped and in a little dish. That is why it always looks so quick to make something on a cooking show. So perhaps meat is often washed by the prep people before filming.

At the same time everyone has a different level of squeamishness. I wouldn't worry about meat not being rinsed because after all it is being cooked, which will kill any germs anyway.

Also from my experience, if cooked to the right temperature chicken can taste quite yummy with just some salt and pepper. This isn't to say that I don't love spicy, savory sauces and rubs! It all depends on what I am going to do with the meat on what spices I cook it with.

So you are totally uninformed and undereducated in the kitchen arts!!

It is not necessary to clean or rinse any meat: chicken, fish, beef, lamb etc before cooking it! It is already clean and wrapped in cling wrap when it is delivered to any kitchen including yours.

The best seasoning for any meat: chicken, fish, beef, lamb, etc IS the simplest!! Just salt and pepper are the best and most tasty. Nothing beats SIMPLICITY!!

Didn't you ever hear of Keep It Super Simple! ??

I always wash my meat before i cook it and i'm sure they probably have their sue chefs do all of that before the show. Salt and pepper is a good seasoning but I'm like you, I like to spice it up. I love to taste the different seasoning in my food.
